Got the chance for one 6 months old, free.
Anyone know what it'll safely run and if it will fit behind my engine? :D (well, not the current one)

according to my mate who knows these things M33 is a casting mark and used on several turbos in the Garrett range, you will need to find out exactly what model it is.

From memory (not great at the best of times) on the tab on the side it had 19/k/5 or something. Also had A/R 50. Will get a better look tomorrow.
It's still attatched to a Volvo FL6 diesel lump if thats any help? From the snippets of info from the net, it has a T3 flange with a 6 bolt downpipe.

I don't think it has an internal wastegate, are you sure its a garrett and not a Holset?

Has Garrett cast into the compressor housing :)
Could be a GT3271, just double checking.
No internal wastegate, but this is for a project anyway :)

Having thought about it, I'll probably have to change the exhaust housing anyway, as it's coming off a commercial diesel. They seem to rate it good for up to 450hp. :)
Any benefit to having an external wastegate?

The M33 uses a gt40 hot side (t4) and comes from ar40-80 from what ive seen, and as Colin says external wastegate, i have seen them on supras skylines etc with ar50 or ar80 and i think ive seen the smaller ones used in twin setups.
its a pretty big thing, ive worked on cars with similar t4 turbos, you could mount it up with the same sort of high flow manifold used for the gt35 conversion... they have a 38mm wastegate mount, external wastegates are alot easier to use and flow more..... but its a bigger turbo than a gt35, so im guessing it would be all lag then smoking tires lol

Lol, cheers chap. :D
I haven't got it off yet as I wanted to see if it was suitable first. It's a lot smaller than Holset HX40 I had a hold of before at least :D
Seems the yanks have bolted some on Civics, so might look into it a bit more yet. :)
