View Full Version : tapping from my near side wheel.....

....Only this, and nothing more.

Apologies to Edgar Allan Poe ;-)

Last week I decided to change wheels around to spread wear... front to back and back to front.

Having done this and driven off I noticed a quiet tapping coming from around the near side wheel. Initially I thought it was something in the glove box or door tidy... but it tapped in time with wheel rpm and only when turning right (when the car 's weight is on the ns wheel).

The tapping gets a little louder the tighter and faster the turn, but in general the tapping is quite inconsistent and not well defined. Power and braking seems not to affect it. At higher speed it's less apparent.

I've just changed the wheel to a spare... no better. Also checked around the hub carrier for anything fouling... nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas when this could be???? It's very perplexing.

I'm thinking it must be the wheel bearing, but I thought that a bearing failure would sound very different.

Thanks in advance for any ideas...!

If the wheel brg had gone it sounds like a rubble.
