Well it's going to be a busy few weeks coming up for me, a couple of jobs that need doing will hopefully be done (with minimal agro)

Cars not looking too bad at present.....

.....but there are a few things I need to do, first up is an air con service/re gas which is booked in for tomorrow at 1700 couldn't get a Protyre near me that did air con so didn't get the £30.00 special mrp got at the weekend, still £44.99 for the guy to come round the house doesn't seem to bad.

Thursday at 0900 is the Terraclean :

Got a few other little jobs in the pipeline as well ;) I'll keep you posted.

Aircon Service :

Right, after mrp had his aircon serviced at the weekend, it got me thinking, only had the car a while but wasn't sure when the a/c was last looked at, this coupled with the Mrs (Nobber72) saying our 'other car' (Golf 2.0 TDi) "Didn't seem as cold as it used to be" had me trawling the interweb.

Our local Protyre didn't do a/c so I surveyed local company's then happened upon this lot :

http://www.wechillanycar.com/#!HOME/mainPage

I called up on Monday and was told someone could come to the house and do both cars Wednesday at 1700
Whilst out last night with my Dad he said that he had never had his a/c looked at and would I mind asking them when they arrived if they could fit his in as well.

1705 this evening Mike arrived and was very accomodating by saying the extra car wouldn't be a problem.
Now when I say a service they really do get looked at, gas is analysed, temperatures are taken, old refrigerant is removed and weighed, system is pressurised to check for leaks, vacumed to remove air and moisture, new oils are injected, system is regassed and temperatures taken again !

Luckily none of our cars had any leaks, the Volvo had 350 grams of refrigerant and 4 grams of oil, this was topped up to 800 grams and 12 grams (P2's take 1000g) ;)
The Golf had 250 grams and 1 gram, topped up to 525 grams and 10 grams

But the star of the day was my Dad's 2002 never looked at before Fiat Punto.....after 10 years it still had 320 grams and 7 grams ! topped up to 525 grams and 10 grams

To sum up Mike was a star, he has 22 years experience, explains anything and everything, and is a nice guy as well.

There are 6 of them working for the company and they cover anywhere within Greater London and the Home Counties (inc Essex ;)) Normal cost £49.99 and they will come to your home or work at a time to suit you, 2+ cars got ours down to a very reasonable £44.99 per car, full printout included, only thing to note is they don't take cards (to keep the costs down).

Overall 10/10 really couldn't fault the service.

Terraclean

Ok as some of you know I was booked in the is morning at 0900 at Performance Tuning in Stoke Poges nr Slough for the V70 to have the Terraclean treatment, here's how I got on.....

Pulled into Jags place and was met by Geoffrey, waiting for me, he guided me into the garage and set to work.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000926.jpg

He already knew from working on doorman's car that he needed to disconnect the fuel pump from the tank so it was a simple boot empty and undo the wiring.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000925.jpg

He then set to work under the bonnet connecting the Terraclean machine to the fuel rail with an adaptor whilst pressurising the machine and attaching the 'magic' cans.
When the machine was ready it was connected to the car and the engine was started.....and that was it !
Now all we had to do was wait.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000927.jpg

The whole process once the car was connected and running took about 25 mins, and it was during this time I asked Geoffrey a few questions, he seemed very knowledgeable and even admitted he seemed dubious that the system worked when he first started using it !
They have had their machine for about 6 months now and since the 'Wheeler Dealer' programme this side of their work has increased and he has 6 in total to do today, they cover petrol and deisel engines and the prices are as follows :

Petrol under 2 litres : £75.00 plus vat
Petrol over 2 litres : £95.00 plus vat

Diesel cars and small vans : £95.00 plus vat
Diesel large vans/trucks : poa

I asked him if a simple injector clean in conjunction with using 'V-Power' would achieve the same results, to which he replied that the Terraclean system is quicker and there is no risk of damaging any injectors (whilst removing etc) along with the fact that it cleans them just as well.
One point to note is that they don't have an emissions machine on site, though he did say if I wanted a proper before and after we could run down to the local MOT garage and have readings taken, at this point the fuel pump had been disconnected and the machine set up so I didn't bother, though he was quite happy to do so should I have wished.
Another point I brought up was that on older engines with increased wear was there a risk of leaks/damage to the engine once all the carbon had been removed, I was told that they have used the machine on several older cars with no problems and Terraclean themselves will repair any damage caused by the process.
Ah but that Jag on the programme was cold I said, the cats didn't have time to warm up and start to work properly ;) though I had him there, till he said that they recommend that the process is done on an engine where everything has had time to warm up.

Once the machine had finished it's witchcraft, it was disconnected, fuel pump plugged back in and the boot trims put back in place, payment was made, less a healthy discount of £20.00 for my trouble turning up last week when they were having problems with a BMW and I had to re-schedule.

Now for the drive home, had it made ANY difference ?

Well the answer to that has to be a big YES

Now my engine has only done 59,000 miles and the car was running very well before the treatment, but as soon as I got onto the main road I noticed a big improvement in throttle response, everytime I touched the pedal there seemed to be an instant reply, car was pulling better all through the range, I was impressed.
Obviously it's too early to tell if there is any improvement in fuel economy, I will keep a close eye on that and report back soon.

To sum up, would I recommend you have this done to your car, yes I would, I can also recommend Performance Tuning UK who also service/tune/remap all makes of car :

http://www.performancetuninguk.co.uk/index.html

Overall 9/10 maybe an on site emissions testing machine, otherwise a very professional set up.

Bushes and brakes

Well I've been a busy boy today, took a trip down South to Poole to visit MRP who was kind enough to help me with a couple more jobs on the car, first up was the polybushing of the wishbones, we started with something like this.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000941.jpg

.....and after a bit of cleaning, swearing and hanging from a vice we ended up with something like this.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000942.jpg

Now when I say the ride home was different I really mean it, for something so small these bushes really do make a difference, the steering felt tighter with a lot more feedback through the steering wheel, if you have not done this mod then I can thoroughly recommend it.

While the wheels were off I though it would be a good time to see to the brakes, so I replaced all 4 discs and fitted new pads, Pagid throughout, along with bleeding the system, again I felt the benefit straight away, no more spongey pedal for me

Now, while the wheels were off, it would have been rude of me not to show my calipers some tlc so they FINALLY got the coat of paint they needed.

Front :

I must just say a BIG thank you to Martin, without whom I wouldn't have even started the job, the use of his tools, Father-in-laws drive and experience was invaluable, I had a great day and learnt a lot (and some new words) from someone who is a valued member of this forum and a great mate

Now just time for a few hours sleep.....gotta be at the tyre shop at 0830 ;)

Wheels and tyres

Right, just back from the tyre fitters where I had my nice shiney Comets shod in Avon ZV5 rubber, first impressions are that they are very good in the wet (been chucking it down all day) and they are much quieter than I thought they would be.
I went for the Avon's this time as buying 5 Eagle F1's together would have cost toooo much in one hit, I'll see how these last, maybe F1's next time eh lol

Oh nearly forgot, suppose you want to see some pics

Well when I woke this morning I was faced with a car that looked like this.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000950.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000952.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000953.jpg

Now it lookes like this.....

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000957.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1000958.jpg

Headache gone !

Took a drive Monday to drop the car at a little garage in Smethwick some of you may have heard of.....GRN Motors run by Benny with a little help from a certain Chad

Why go so far from home you may ask, well as some of you know I have had a problem with a rattle in the top left hand (n/s) corner of my dash for some time now, MRP kindly 'expertly' fitted a piece of card between the dash and window which did get rid of a lot of the knocking but it was still there.....driving me mad.

Speaking with Chad a few weeks ago he said that he and Benny were familiar with the mounting tab problem of a tab breaking and would be willing to have a look to see if it could be glued back, easy enough.....noooo upon removing the old dashboard it was discovered that the tab had broken into quite a few pieces and also the dash where the tab had to be glued was cracking in quite a few places.....but then my luck changed.

They actually had a C70 that they were breaking and upon inspection the lower dash from it was in excellent condition :D

Fast forward to today and I have just got home from collecting the car and wow what a great job has been done, no more creaks or knocks, everything back together and working as it should.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1010006.jpg

Dashboard stripped, I am soooo glad I wasn't around to see this, looking at the picture makes my stomach turn lol

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1010009.jpg

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1010010.jpg

Cracked dashboard and shattered mounting tab.....held together by the felt and a lot of luck !

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/graham1326/P1010015.jpg

How she looks now, clean and tidy, just how I like her, steering wheel and heating controls straight (for you stribo)

Whilst with the guy's I had them fit one of these.....

http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/ipod-iphone-kits-c-1/volvo-ipod-iphone-bluetooth-integration-kit-p-49?zenid=493567b36a0766138380919ab1ea686a

.....and I must say I am really impressed, added the bluetooth module so I can stream my Spotify collection via my iPhone, plus have handsfree calling as a bonus, again expertly fitted by Benny with no wiring on show, just how I like it.

So Graham's a very happy bunny today, thanks to Chad and Benny :worship:

Dont want to steal anyones thunder but thought I would inform members that I have had Terraclean done on a Volvo 850 T5 as well as a T5R.
T5R was then taken to Germany and was getting 26mpg driving through towns avoiding all motorways to get a results from fuel economy.

I had the terraclean done at Grease junkies in Bracknell which just for reference is the garage owned by Ed China from the T.V show Wheeler Dealers and the studio is next door to the garage. Terraclean cost £80 each car and was quick and easy and emissions were tested before during and after system was run. Results were amazing.

After system was run emissions kept dropping all the time going from an instant M.O.T FAILURE to a PASS with flying colours.

If that's not worth £80 then I dont know what is.

Well I had the day off so I thought it only polite to go for a run in the car and drop in and see MRP.....while there we fitted a quick shift kit, strut brace and had a general clean around the engine bay (inc battery lol) ready for Sunday.
Must say the quick shift really makes a difference, reducing the 'throw' of the gear lever by nearly half, the strut brace stiffens the car up nicely throwing the car into corners, overall a good afternoons work.
Thanks again to Martin, without whom my car would not be half as good as it is.....thanks mate

Only bad point to note is on the way home the car's odometer passed 60,000 miles, is there much mileage left in the old girl ;)

Right on with the pics.....

Had the old girl MOT'd yesterday, passed with only 1 advisory : Nearside Anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint, uprated items arrived from PFV this afternoon

Was looking at the 'Exhaust Emissions Test Results' and saw the following :

HC (ppm) Max Limit 200 Actual Value 7
CO (% vol) Max Limit 0.300 Actual Value 0.008

Now to me these figures seem very low, does anyone think this can be down to the 'Terraclean' I had done on 31.05.12 if so maybe some of the claims do hold up, would be interesing to hear if anyone else has any 'Exhaust Emission Test Results' to compare with.

Are you sure the brake pedal feel was not down to the fact that to fit the brake lines you would of (or the garage would of) had to bleed the brakes, this in itself would have made a BIG difference. Not meaning to burst your bubble or anything Graham, but standard oe brake lines on your Volvo would be braided internally anyway. Perhaps i should change to braided on my car (knowing that they were only bled 4 months ago and system filled with Dot 5.1 ATE Blue) and then see if i notice any difference...

There not 'projector' bulbs mate, it's YOUR headlights that are projectors. The oe headlamp before you replaced yours was a reflector type. You current headlamps are Projector type. You must make sure you use the correct type of bulb, if not then they will look crap. Its often the mistake all the chavs make in there corsas, puntos and the like make. They fit the wrong 'type' of bulb and all you get is loads of glare and un metered light, hense why the little tw ats blind you.

Your bulbs will be either H7 or H1. You must search for H* 35w HID kit on eBay.

To be honest, as yours are projector lamps then you wont have a problem.

many places sell in Uk now, so no need to buy from China.

The projectors can of course be levelled, it's just the self-levelling system (from the wheel on the dash switch) does not operate, and yeah I think only one washer works.

Suppose I could always change back to 'normal' bulbs come MOT time.

Yeah, I assume the projectors level can be altered, but your saying there's no electric adjustment facility on them are you? Suppose your right, the 'Projector' headlamps have no facility to self level, even though the car has a switch, which could of course be blanked off :B_thumb:

Graham, it's very simple to rectify your problem. Remove the headlamp I front of the offending wiper. Replace said wiper motor with a new one and refit headlamp. Fit new wiper blades. Remove crappy halogen bulbs and replace with hid kit. Drive to main dealer and have them align your headlamps to the correct level. Cost is £15 at my dealer and you know your getting a good align with a calibrated leveller in a nice clean workshop.

As far as the mot is concerned, Volvo never questioned my hids and the beam pattern was so crisp, it was very easy to adjust. Then your headlamp wipers will work with your new motor installed. You don't need auto levelling, just wash wipe....which you already have.

Worked for me when I had my laser. Will work for you too! Best mod I ever did on the R.

.....Flash dimmer and not as bright as oe orange.

I have had them myself, but the light output isn't that bright and TBH, i can cope with a slight tinge of orange in the lens. It's not that noticeable but the lack of orange light when using your indicators is. being as they are also a safety item (Hazard lights) i opted for the much brighter oe bulbs.

Suppose your right, the 'Projector' headlamps have no facility to self level, even though the car has a switch, which could of course be blanked off :B_thumb:

Washer could be a duff connection or faulty motor, maybe a scrappy job or maybe even remove and blank them off too I suppose.

Just remove yr adjaster motor from old headlights and fit to the projectors, thats what I did and they adjust by the switch inside, just need an extra llittle o ring to make it sit tight.

Not updated this thread for a while, to be honest I've been busy at work and not had the time, still I wheeled the 'Old Girl' out this morning and headed off to see Sarkey San down in Tadley for a bit of polishing before Sunday.

It was absolutely boiling in the sun, we did one side then headed into Newbury for lunch, returning to finish off what we started.

A couple of pictures trying to show the deep shine we (well Steve did most of it I just buffed off) achived, don't worry too much about the plastics, glass or wheels/tyres etc.....plenty of time to get those done Saturday.

Right, I'm off to the seaside.....well Poole actually to go and see master mechanic M-R-P (notice how I big him up before he does any work on the car lol) today's jobs include new vac lines and TCV as they haven't been done since I've had the car, we will also be fitting......something else

Hi Graham, are those hoses to connect to the TCV? If so could I pls get the part numbers from you for the hoses and clips? I'm just about to order some.

Your car looks VERY NICE and clean btw
