i've got the exact one as that, but i've had to keep my wired OBD2 lead as one of the programs i've got won't work via the bluetooth connection

once i'm home i've give you the name of the bluetooth program that works, think its PCMscan but not 100%

You need to plug it into the car but not activate the torque app. Pair it with your phone, as you would with a BT hands free, codes are 1234 or 0000.
Once paired it will automatically disconnect. then run torque app, which will take a while to connect first time.
Had this problem with mine, works fine now.

Should be the same principle, pair it first then run the software ;)
If the software doesn't see a saved, paired device, it won't look to activate it.

I found - out the other day, after loading Torque on the wife's new Android Tab, that the bloody thing didn't have bluetooth AND the BT usb dongle I have won't work in it too!

Bang goes my HUD idea :(

i've got PCMScan & proscan 5.9, PCMScan works via bluetooth but proscan will only work via wired USB-OD2

Errr, got a few of "dubious authenticity" on an external HDD and a disk that came with my obd thingy... I know I have a few but can't test them on a lappy since I dropped it down the stairs lol.

I have a cheapie ELM 327 (looks exactly like the one you bought) and the pairing code is 6789. I have found torque on android to be good but could not read the fault codes, whereas EasyOBD II on a windows XP laptop with bluetooth would (on a '01 corolla)

ok...... i have PMScan up & running now, this one looks pretty good... now to get it linked!!

(thx fandango :partysmil)

i think ive found the problem...... the PMScan & other apps only have com-ports 1-8, the ELM adapter is listed on the laptop on com-port 11, so none of the apps are detecting it.

how can i change the com-port number that the adaptor is linked to.....?????

cheers all......

ok...... it 'appears' to now be working.

im using PMScan (fully registered)..... it reads the ECU but does not deliver any car info.(model make engine size), when i read the codes, its says there are none stored..??, i find this strange as i have the SRS warning on the dash, i fitted an IPD TCV & i unplugged the MAF...?? i should have 1 stored at least.

i click 'connect' & the app says its linked to the adapter, when scanning all the little lights start flickering on it & i have the green bar going across the screen so its certainly scanning the car...

how does this dyno one work....lol :bricks:

ah, i think you'll need a DICE unit to reset the airbag light. I don't think any of the generic OBD2 programs will anything other than engine fault codes

On dear, you didn't unplug they battery before you sent the dim away for repair did you? The srs warning won't be picked up by most readers. As mr. Fandango said, you need specialist software to sort it.

Hi, I'm trying to link my HTC sensation with me V70 with a ELM 327 which came through the post today.....stuck it into the port unde the centre armrest . I can find the ELM and pair it to the HTC, but when I go to the Torque app and I click on realtime information I constantly get an error says "adapter not found, retrying..." cant find any one with same problem on internet, any ideas welcomes.

Have you successfully.paired the adapter to the phone? ( go to Bluetooth setings, scan for adaptor, click pair, input code, save the pairing and disconnect) Start torque app with ignition in position 2 or with the engine running.
If it doesn't automatically connect, connect it through the settings in the torque app. It will guide you through connection in the help section of the app too.
HtH.

Ps, 1st connection can take a minute or so.

I got an elm327 bluetooth reader the other day. To connect it I had to pair it with my HTC, then run the Torque app, go to 'settings' in the menu, scroll down the many settings until I got to 'Device' and select the elm327 device that showed up. If the device isn't paired then the 'Device' list will be blank.

Hope this helps.

cheers for the tips chaps but this thing's got me beat

Think I must have a dud one as I still keep getting a message saying "adapter not found" blahdy blah....and that I should reboot my phone?

The little car emblem next to the bluetooth emblem on torque will momenteraly come but then turns off - it's as if it cant connect to the ECU despite being paired with the ELM/Phone.

Never mind, will try a replacement and see how that goes

just to confirm, you are pairing via torque and not pairing the phone to the elm, then trying to pair torque?
i had the same trouble with mine and I'm trying to remember how i got round it.

Pairing ELM to phone first. Then when I start torque it automatically selects the ELM. The little car emblem flashes for a few seconds and then goes off, not the solid blue it should be.

Just reading the torque forum, it says that it might not work if there are other bluetooth aps on the phone....now to work out what has bluetooth lol
