I'm about to purchase a set of 4 tyres in 225/45 R17, I'm wondering if anyone has experience of using extra load tyres?

The car is a 2001 S60 D5 and isn't used for towing so I'm thinking probably not but I've read a few conterary things online althouhg none specifically about the S60.

As a side note National Tyres seem to have some bloody good deals on both the Barum and Avon tyres!

I have just put a new set of Hankook K110 V12 Evo XL on my S60 D5 and I am thoroughly impressed. I believe they were fitted with XL as standard (mine had all XLs but a different brand on every corner when I bought it...ergh!) I paid £365 for a set of 225/45R17 XL fitted. They're great wet or dry. You only need to Google reviews on them to see how they're regarded.

HTH.

Fairly sure this important point has been covered before. If the car was originally supplied with XL tyres, then you should maintain fitting XL tyres to keep your insurance valid. I was advised this was the case with my V70 D5, and for only a few quid extra per corner, I'd rather not risk it.

Simon, I have actually been looking at those Hankooks, theres was a guy selling them on eBay for £65 a piece (+ tenner postage), they seem great value.

I'm not sure if my car was specced with XL tyres or not, it doesn't mention anything specific in the manual about speed or load ratings.

Tis a strange one, I remember when I took my old V70 D5 into Kwick fit many moons ago they recommended XL tyres.

I too can vouch for the K110 Ventus V12 Evo Hankook's, very good tyres.

As long as they have a high enough load and speed rating, i'd have thought they would be fine.

and right size obviously. lol
