Hello guys,

I have just taken my Volovo in for 2x problems A/C problem and engine stalling every now and then. To my shock horror the main dealer has listed the below problems :

A/C need a new compressor £461 + Lab £103
Stalling problem they said the throttle housing needs clean and if it doesn't fix it then a lambda sensor required £143 + £70 Lab

Now here's the big one! they reckon that my abs control unit is faulty and I need a new one £812 !! + Lab £74 and BCM reload. I have not experienced any problem with my ABS at all no :drunk: lights have come on and when you brake it stops you with the grinding pumping feeling through your toes.

Also to top it off they say I need a new siren for my alarm £94 + LAB £59

Total estimated bill £2199

Please if any one has any ideas on the abs or the other parts please comment or to save some money on the parts.

Many Thanks

Wobbly will repair your ABS problem for A LOT less than the main stealer wants.

Where abouts are you based because I am sure we could point you in the direction of a good specialist for at least halfd the price!

Rob, defo give WobblyDave a PM and get him to do your ABS ecu, he has just repaired mine, I posted it to him special delivery on Friday/Monday delivery and he called me yesterday to say its on its way back to me. (the wife just called to say its arrived) :)
I live just outside Norwich so posted it to him so dont worry about it...I think he's an ok guy.... :slap: and it saved me a fortune, especially with all the exspense I have at the mo :troutslap lol
Others on here should be able to point you in the right direction for the A/C compressor, just stay away from those main dealers they are a total and utter rip off.

I`ll second wobbly dave for the abs repair as he`s done mine and its a top notch job as others have said stay away from the main steelers unless you`ve won the lottery or are just a sucker with cash to burn

Cheers

Hi What model do you have? There was a compressor on EBay the other day buy it now brand new for the 70 series £195 + vat,

but what can be wrong with it if the lights are coming on with ignition and going off after 3 seconds and the pump seems to be working too.....why does it need a repair?

Compressor price sounds ok! Try ebay as someone suggested.
Some breakers have them worth a try.
If you get 2nd hand one I'll fit it and regass for £75 when I'm down next (at least once a month inc 2nd Oct.
Or try Y.P for local car ac guy, for price.

Cheers guy's !! One question how do I take it off as I am not a mechanic?

The compressor comes on when you start the car from cold, the air con then works nice and cold until the car gets to temperture. Then you can hear the compressor turn off and then warm air comes through and that's it for the rest of the day warm air.

Another recommendation for Wobbly Dave from me regarding ABS ECU - top bloke and great service!

Not sure what model Volvo you have, but if its an 850 - this can easily be replaced by a DIY'er - source a replacement from a breakers (£10 max??), unplug and unbolt the original and replace - 10 min job!

Doesn't sound like the compressor, its the clutch you hear clicking on and off which is controlled by thermostats and pressure switches, I would think its something else in the control circuit.
Difficult to say what without testing it.
Is it an 850 you have?

Hi Rob,

Can I recommend Wrights Volvo Specialists at Attleborough, they're very good, I dont take my car anywhere else. 01953 455960. A while back I got my ABS unit done for about £350, though as has been said on here Dave has had success in restoring faulty modules - even £350 is a hell of a lot cheaper than main dealer.

Ive never tried it but theres another Volvo place i think its on the Fakenham road, called Woody's or something. As such I cant vouch for it but Ive never had a problem with Wrights.

Good luck!
