Just bought my S60 D5 SE '04 which I'm going to treat to all filters and fluids. I'm a bit confused on oil though. Looking round different manufacturers/suppliers/forums there are sooo many different recommendations!! I have always used Opie Oils and had NOTHING but good experience. However, their 'Recommend me an oil' section recommends a 10w40 or 5w40 fully synthetics but the general consensus of opinion elsewhere is 0w30. If I go 5w40 it'll be much cheaper, but that's not the be all and all IMO.

If I opt for 0w30 I'm thinking of this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_19 9423_langId_-1_categoryId_165581#tab2

Help would be much appreciated. Also, any recommendations for manual transmission fluid??

AFAIK, 5W/30 is an upgrade for petrol models, from 10W/40.
Don't know if it's the same for oil burners tho.
Somebody with a larger brain will be along soon :D

Have a look on castrol oil site as they do a oil finder for any car just enter your reg or make model eg.
As castrol is used by Volvo uk.

Have a look on castrol oil site as they do a oil finder for any car just enter your reg or make model eg.
As castrol is used by Volvo uk.

Looked on there, and they list a few vehicle types for my reg number with different recommendations. I've not got a clue how I find out which type I have. Any ideas??

My car is a Mar '04 S60 D5 SE 163bhp reg: SH04 EXF

If I put my details into the Castrol site I get these options:

S60 D5 2.4 turbodiesel 2001-2004. Recommends Edge 5w40 (Same as OPIE)

OR

S60 D5 2.4 20v turbodiesel (85/96/120kW) 2004-2006. Recommends Edge 0w30

Which on earth do I go for!? Argh!!

Mobil 1 here, I'll have to have a look on the bottle in the garage to tell you exactly what variant though.

Hi I think one is longlife oil eg 18k oil changes the other 12k changes
I would use 5W-40 better for the engine the 0w-30 a bit thin on Start up ok in the winter when the oil is at its thickest also the 0w-30 will cost a bit more as well.
Just do 12k changes and save the money and keep the oil that bit cleaner in the engine.

Right, took the plunge and ordered 7L of Mobil Super 3000 X1 5w40 for the engine and 4L of Fuchs Titan SAE 75w80 for the gearbox. Front polybushes arrived today, HIDs & LEDs en route. Just need to order my filters, top engine mount, lower torque link and rear exhaust hanger and the car will be tip top as new!!
