Basically the cruise control doesn't work on the steering wheel.

Here's what happens. If you turn the ignition on and press cruise on the steering wheel it was light 'cruise' on the display. Press it again and off it goes. If I then move the steering wheel and press cruise again it doesn't turn on. If I turn it on and leave it on and turn the wheel it stays on the display but you cant then turn it off.

Strangely the volume and sat nav controls on the steering wheel do work outwith the cruise control switches. Although they can sometimes be tempremental in that one minute they work and then they dont and then they do, all in the same journey. There is no direct link with the cruise control working or not though.

I thought perhaps there was something wrong with the 'squid' ring that connects the steering wheels to the cars electronics but I had it apart the other day and its looks fine.

I'm guessing the cruise control issue possibly lies elsewhere but I just find it strange that it doesn't work once I've moved the steering wheel about.

Any comments/suggestions.

2 questions for you...

Regardless of the display, does the cruise physically work? - get to speed, find cruise on, press +, off the throttle and off you go.

Has your speedo cluster done anything strange lately?

Answer 1:- Cant get the car moving when the cruise is actually working. As soon as you move the steering wheel around it stops working and wont start working without turning the car off and on again.

Answer 2:- Nothing funny with the speedo cluster at all.

Lol, the only time my cruise control played up was when my DIM was going mad :)
Sounds like the inherent T6 mad electrics. See if you can get a code reader on it.

Ok,

So I managed to get the cruise control to function yesterday.

I stopped on a nice long straight bit of road. Turned off the ignition and re started the car. The cruise light came on with a press of the button on the steering wheel and I set off. As it was a straight bit of road I only had minor steering inputs so the the cruise worked and I could activate it. As soon as a big bend came it de activated and the light went off.

So all in all it is definitely directly linked to the steering wheel and I guess the squid ring.

I have had it off and took it apart. It looked fine but I suspect it is the problem.

There is one on ebay for £15 including postage. I think'll I just bite the bullet and buy it and get it changed and see if it solves the problem.

Sounds like the clock spring's had it, especially as your remote stereo controls only work intermittently.
