View Full Version : NOS kit best methods?

Just wondering if I was to fit NOS then what would be the best way - wet kit - dry?

Would it work without changing the map? Is a forged engine a pre-requisite?

I am hoping the IATs will decrease?

You planning a trip to the moon in the near future? :cuckoo:

I'm not using a forged engine, you must use a wet kit and a good nitrous controller if your new to nitrous, map shouldn't be affected. I just use a WOT switch, but I'v been using nitrous for 30years :)

I think its a map for running nos if not maybe a progreesor switch on the throttle would be a safer way?

Do you want a prize or sumat? You may well have sown the seed - but it is I that will do the deed.

That's if it is worth blowing the top off my engine to keep Frankie behind me!

Lmao, so what's your intention then Dave, progressive with the throttle (although you gotta be mad or brave to wanna link anything other than C4 to an ME7 throttle lol) or a Fast n Furious style big red button on the steering wheel?
Watching with considerable interest...

Mine are a bit more "industrial" but the same design and less likely to break ;)

Lol, its an 850, so obviously the horn button doesn't work on the steering, but I used to use it for purge.

Progressive controller would be the way to go, bring the delivery in how and when you want it. Help spool up.

Wizards of NOS build some of the best progressive controllers and solenoids.

I would have done - but I wasn't even sure you're still alive nevermind still posting! LOL

Do I need a forged engine to run NOS or just ARP headbolts to stop it flying apart?

Any tips would be appreciated.

It depends on what power you have now and how much extra you want, it has nothing to do with nitrous, if you are heading north of 350bhp, then you will probably need a forged engine.

yeah i am still loitering from time to time.

actually i bought a mint 850 2.5 auto estate last week so i am a volvo driver again.

you can normally add a certain percentage as claymore said before forged parts are needed. i did not actually change any internals on mine, despite the rumours!

i think it would be fair to say you can go to 320 ish on a t5 before considering them from feedback on here. - dont do what i did and find you are just over the limit, but i only had that problem when i fitted the progressive controller. i never investigated why so i just went back to on full throttle only. the progressive controller caused some sort of misfire - won told me maybe the frequency of the pulsing was not right for the engine, but needed investigation so i just binned it and went back to what i knew was ok.
bear in mind there will be more strain and pressure on nos, so an upped boost 320 is more testing to the engine than a nos'd 320.

it did take some experimenting to work out the correct ratios, and it did not work as well on a single injector system so i had to go direct port which was spot on.

Wobbly Dave

I already have 320 bhp. I am building a forged engine. See where it leads...

As for controlling it I guess my ME7 will be another challenge.

its not an auto still is it?

the easiest way to set it up is an activation switch that gets pressed at full throttle mounted on the pedal stop on the floor. but i wonder if an auto might cause problems if the engine is dropping revs for gearchanges, you still have the pedal fully depressed and the gas is flowing- could cause pre detonation? -

claymore - do you know if this could happen on an auto ?

claymore
Friday 13th April 2012, 16:55
Daves is a manual, so the WOT switch on the throttle pedal is a good idea on an me7

on a pre me7 you can put the switch here:

ah ok, he has seen the light then. shows how out of touch i am.

i dont see why the throttle switch wont work on any engine management system at all. it is working independently - the alternative of a wire piggybacked on to the wires going to the etm only sense the voltage and turn the system on at full throttle only, so it is a simplified method of the same thing.

i made the choice because it was less likely to go wrong.

what i cant tell you is if you might get some 'over flow' errors from the maf or similar as it see more air than expected but as long as the a/f ratio is checked and ok. i always also got a engine light and maf sensor error if the bottle was less than a third full when lifting off on overrun - this was because the pressure drops slightly inside the bottle after this point.

what system have u got claymore? holley also use the same pedal mounted switch for most applications dont they?

claymore
Friday 13th April 2012, 17:08
Mine is just a mix and mach set i have that many parts lying around...lol, but a simple arming switch and WOT switch., I used to have a twisted sanity controller but I seem to have mislaid it somewhere.

I sold my auto 6 years ago FFS! LOL

I thought given that I was doing a racing engine - I may as well plumb in the giggle gas as well.

BTW I am planning a day at the pod - 11th August if you fancy it, Madness?

Friday 13th April 2012, 17:29
you have just reminded me the reason i mounted switch on the pedal stop - no bracket mounting point on the throttle body and other stuff in the way. i just banged 2 self tappers through the rubber stop to hold the switch on in the correct position.

i found you can buy a switch for a couple of quid, where as won wanted £15 for a replacement. there really is nothing special about them.

ref the 11th aug - sadly i will be on holiday still then .

nice to catch up with you dave.

On NOS applications, it's recommended to retard the timing when fired. So if you have someone who can customise the mapping, it'll be a plus :)
