Here's a quick project blog of my V50, bought in November 2011 from a trader in Doncaster, it was an ex-lease car and pretty well looked after.

I've always really liked the V50 shape, and after having a few reasonably warm VAG cars I wanted a family car that could still turn a few heads, and would still be reasonably quick. I don't do that many miles but it's also nice to see 40+MPG which my previous 2 fast cars would never dream of!

Anyway, first things first, when I got the car back we got it on to the dyno to see how it was running in stock form. Stock figures were almost bang on the money at 176.6hp and 414Nm torque (manufacturers figures are 177hp/400Nm) so I was pleased to see that I'd bought a healthy car.

As I bought the car near the end of the month, there was a few days of November left which meant there was no point in taxing it until December. I got itchy fingers and so we loaded it back on to the dyno that night to start tinkering with it (you can still see the trade plates in the window!)

Stage 1 figures were 217.1hp/525Nm.

Don't suppose you have a better resolution photo of the graph?

I drove the car in Stage 1 tune over Christmas until I went off work in February. I haven't done that many miles in the car but in early December I drove to Luton airport for a family holiday, 2+1 of us and a mate of mine with luggage, no problems at all. The car is comfortable, lovely to drive, really impressed with it. Done another couple of long trips in it and it really is a comfortable tourer.

As I mentioned in post #1 I've been off work since February when I had an operation. I'm just getting back on my feet and can't drive.. of course I've got itchy fingers again and so I asked our mechanic to take the DPF out so we could go to Stage 2 with the car. After some dyno time we came out with a perfectly smooth 230.9hp/592Nm. We did push it that little bit harder and got 237.4hp and 597Nm which really is the limit on the stock intercooler, as the V50 intercooler isn't as good as the V70 item.

237.4hp/597Nm perhaps a little smoky but quick!

Next plans are:

Intercooler
Full exhaust
Coilovers
Wheels
Brakes

I told myself I wasn't going to mod this one... but I said the same about the Skoda...

Sorry, the original images on photobucket appear to be a lot bigger, I'll copy them elsewhere so you can see the full image.

Unfortunately this isn't in perfectly chronological order, but I only just got all these pictures by the young fella that did the detail on my car. And what a cracking job he's made too.

Swirled door, 50/50

Door complete

The rest of the car was just the same, including the headlights, rear light clusters, everywhere needed correction and plenty of it. Anyway I won't bore you with all the pictures (that's for detailingworld fans) but here's the finished results:

That is some serious torque!!

What are you using for your paint correction?

The chap who did the detail is going to be back at the workshop tomorrow, so I'll ask him which products and machine that he used for it. His facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/ATDDetailing

Usually it would be, I'm still laid up after an operation! The chap that's done it is a friend of one of the lads in the office, and let's be honest, it needed doing.. so whilst it's/I'm off the road it's an ideal time to get some stuff done to it.

Good work a stock T5 is typically 170bhp to the wheels so I bet it goes well!

Paintwork looks fab.

What chassis mods are you running?

I had a set of Medusas (and 18 Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.3) Ride was dire with em on so went to 17's!

I'll let you know how well it goes when I'm allowed to drive again.. hopefully next week!

Absolutely no chassis mods at the moment, definitely looking for inspiration there.. In the name of show I will no doubt be making the ride worse in the near future, but will have a set of TD wheels incase it goes to any trackdays or anything. Once it's sorted it'd be nice to see what it's like out on track but it's a long way from that. Power wise I need a cooler and exhaust sorting out, chassis wise there's a list as long as my arm..

get a strut brace if u don't have one already... and the IPD rear roll bar!

Bilstein dampers are good too, full polybushing is the biggest upgrade I reckon tho.

does this not make the ride really harsh..??

It's OK on 17's not sure I'd fancy it on 18's

Main thing is the wheel 'fizzes' with constant feedback, so expect tired hands the first few long runs till u get used to it.

Handling is literally night and day ... you'd never want to drive a non-poly car fast again after driving a full conversion - it's SO direct and accurate like you wouldn't believe.

IIRC the B14 is Bilstein B8's and springs all at the same time right ? you'll have pretty much the same set up as me if so.

*chant* polybush polybush!!

are you putting the IPD rear roll bar and Megan rear geometry kit on at the same time?

Shocks will make a shocking difference, Polybush is at least the same difference again in terms of the levels of dynamic grip and handling.

Wednesday 25th April 2012, 14:30
Well we are authorised Polybush distributors and I've spoken to them also, sometime over the next couple of week we will sort the kit out and that'll go on too!

Thats a impressive gain. Would a 2008 185 d5 get the same gains with dpf removed.

Yes, as it's essentially the same as the 180PS engine, but the intercooler is something to watch as with any remapped D5.
