A friend of mine has an 08 v50 diesel....left lights on,battery went flat.
boost charged for half hour, car started and off he goes....
Came out at dinnertime, won't start, put boost pack on,still won't start..
Fully charged battery, lights up on dash, but key will not start car,no clicking or anything.
Seems like the immobiliser is on...

Any one know??
Thanks in advance....

Breakdown been out....says immobiliser is on....then promptly left!!!
Me and him can't understand why it would do this......
I feel he may have an eBay item soon!!!!
Tried locking and unlocking, not working but worth a try

Probably an even stupider suggestion but tried the spare key? (If that doesn't work I think it will be a garage job?)

Jam a candle in the back seat and light it. It'll give you about 2 hours until it goes foom ;)

I've been to a couple of V50s that do this. You have two options...

Option 1.

Go through the normal motions of unlocking the car. Make sure it does not say 'immobilisor fault' in the dash, else your wasting your time. If it does skip to option 2. Insert key into slot on dash and press firmly on back of key, forcing key into dash and at the same time twist to the start position....

If vehicle cranks but does not start move to option 2.

Option 2

Have vehicle recovered to dealer for immobilisor re programme and ignition barrel replaced. Make sure you take ALL spare keys.

Fault is normally the ignition key receiver. Has bad contacts inside and needs to be replaced by dealer.
