Handbrake sticking on 1 wheel?

For a little while now iv notice a strange "whirring" at pretty much all speeds.

This evening i jacked up both sides to check for bearing play and what not. Luckily all the wheels were solid with no movement at all, however, The rear nearside wheel doesn't move as "freely" as the other side.

As the car was stood a fair while before i bought it, is it possible the handbrake shoes in the drums are sticking, or could it be because the pads need changing (they are low)

Sorry to be dumb, what is the car?

The handbrake shoes on some Volvos do tend to seize up in the drums sometimes, often thanks to moisture, maybe they are not releasing properly?

Just a heads up when you post things like this can you please let people know what car you have or put it a signiture so they know.

As al said it will be the shoes that are sticking also the auto adjuster can be stuck take the rear caliper of and remove the disc (do one side at a time) clean the inner of the disc and if its still rubbing adjust them.

I had this on my astra( rear discs ) it turned out to be the handbrake cable to the drivers side had rubbed through the outer cable and seized causing it to not operate,just a though worth checking .
Get someone to operate the handbrake inside the car and check to see if the cable moves.

If it is the handbrake shoe sticking I'd get it sorted ASAP otherwise the friction material will become detatched from the shoe and your wheel won't move at all. It happened twice in the four years I had mine, once I had to get recovery out and the second time TheT6Kid came to my rescue with a car trailer.

Its booked in for tomorrow morning - just hope it isn't a dodgy caliper or something :(

Got a first line cable,fitted and sticky and after a bit of investigation found the cable housing to the hub is not the same size inside as it should b.Getting a diff one now.

All done, it needed stripping and cleaning up :)

Sorry to re-awaken an old thread, but...How did you you go about this?

I have just ordered a new cable due to the old one being stuck solid.
Got the old one off, with the plastic end that goes into the hub being attached to the cable - does not seem possible to change it due to the size of the bullet nipple on the end of the cable. Worriedd though as the placcy housing thing was broken so hoping the new cable includes it?

Mine is a 96 t5 estate, and only one cable was listed as far as I could tell/.
What model / year was yours and how did you resolve the problem? I may need to get a housing bit in a hurry (this is for an MOT retest!!) Hoefully though I will be OK as need to get MOT tomoz for a business trip on Saturday.
