Gul 855 were made in the 1996 or earlier, might not have any immo. Only later years models came with it (I could be wrong as my T5 is the way I described it).

You mentioned the engine has been replaced and it ran after that or the non-start issue was after the replacement ? I would go for the Crank position sensor and Cam position sensor first.

Hard to say with a replacement engine but did you check if there's a rotor inside the distributor cap ? If there is, how's the condition ? Remember that the center piece of the distributor is touching the rotor, see if it's stuck or damaged.

all these things have been checked and mostly replaced im going to start with power to the coil and work forward tho my original question is would the fob not being programmed to the car cause it to be immmobilised? someone has told him the car needs recoding at volvo, tho if im right there is no chip in the 850 key therfore the immob is all part of alarm and the fob? so am i right thinking it could be as simple as this ? or at least start here and move on?
on the above post is it only obd11 that have immobilsers?

have you tried to recode the remote,
you can do it manually, there is a thread on here somewhere how to do it,
im assuming the ecu is the original one, from the original engine,i dont know if ecu is dedicated to the original engine ? i dont think it will be,but im sure someone will know,
