LINK (http://www.box.com/s/ex7qq94bxsr76680jyd8), there were 3 different final drive ratios on M56L's, personally i'm going for a longer ratio box

Sorry I was thinking in regards to strength rather than ratios.

would the 2.0 have differnt ratios/speeds than the 2.5 as that is saying that an m56l fitted to a 2.0 20valve is good for 170mph that cant be right

not all the same, the early ones had a different speedo drive, i know because mine is. would that fit a v70r or would it need altering?

2.5 20 valve is the same as t5 isn't it?

850 ones need modifying to fit v70's as internal and external slaves

i would of thought the 2.0litre would have a lower final drive than the 2.5litre, no thats only a guess.

The M56L has a different 1st & 2nd gear to a M56H, the other 3 gears are the same ratio. So if you get one with the same 4.00:1 as our M56H all your gaining is more wheelspin unitl you get into 3rd, then its exactly the same as before

Wouldn't matter, as the later cars used the ABS sensors for the speedo drive

know what ya mean bud, but dont ya think thats a cause for trouble? your pushing the engine to the limit on standards, dont you think the extra acceleration could cause it to be just a little too much? only looking out for ya in the long run ;)

2.5 10v & 20v 1996 use M56H with 4.00:1 final drive

now Frankie, again according to the 1996 press release. The 2.0 10v uses the same M56H but with a 4.45:1 final drive

They look great on paper mate...
The 5th gear ratio is epic but, I can say from experience (see sig) without big power and light weight, 5th is not much fun. Bloody good job 4th is good for 146 :)

Dalhousie, I tried checking what box you had while I was doing your MBC. I shoved some of the crud away but it looked like the label had fallen off :(

I won't sell it. Dropped it 40mm today and fitted new brakes and strut brace. Just off loaded my auto t5r auto and the other r is at my mums. So only leaves the 850r and spare 854.

I had quite a few bits knocking about so it's had everything done apart from a 18 or 19t and exhaust. That's about it, Martin whens next southern meet

161.75 is flat out for gearing in a t5 box around 6200rpms

dalhousie2008
Wednesday 1st February 2012, 20:34
that would be around 158mph, so maybe it is the normal box?
