how fast do you think it goes.....850 I assume... you should expect 120 to arrive pretty easily in fourth and then a bit of a shift up to 140+ eventually you'll reach 150......

you should be closer to 30-35mpg if you drive without using the Turbo and 20-25 if you have a heavy right foot... although you can lower this even more if you hammer the thing to death reaching the higher speeds... eg recent track day a achieved 7mpg. I used 2/3 of tank and covered only 77miles

any misfiring ....? any servicing required ...? look at the stage 1 tune up .... it covers the basics ... anything else someone can always help it'll hopefully be something basics.....

give us the symptoms and we will try to help as much as we can.... or bring it to a meet....

Don't give up Hope yet..! How long roughly does it take to get to 60 from standing still , if its around 7 seconds thats about right for a standard car...
Is it Manuel or Auto...! what have you got your Computer switched to on the dash and what readings are you getting. On mine my Average Fuel is ready 22.9 miles per gallon , which quote me if wrong is about right..! :B_steerin

These T5s are deceptive - they don't "sound" or "feel" fast, - the best indication is the way they'll pull away from almost everything else with apparent ease and the little time it takes to hit 80+.
If you want the sound & feel of a fast car, then you're probably better off with a rice-rocket of some description!
The T5 is a large comfy car with a ton of torque! - it's not meant to be a race car. ;)

Have to agree that if you've driven other "fast" cars the standard t5 can seem a bit on the slow side especially given its reputation but I agree with Goof it is faster than it feels. The ecu upgrade certinaly sorts them out mind.

If you listen to to much forum chat of people beating supercars that probably did'nt even know they were in a race you'll soon start thinking the brick is broken!

I wasn't impressed with the performance of our 855 T5 at first, turned out it needed a new turbo, which has certainly put a spring in it's step, but I think they were conservative when setting it up, it only boosts halfway through the white on the guage, so I need to get someone who knows their stuff to set it up properly (main stealer says it's fine, but then they said the brakes are fine too, which is definitely not the case).

One thing that I have noticed is that it seems to enjoy revs, not something I'm used to with a turbo charged car.

In any case 15 mpg is plain wrong, fully laden and aircon on I was getting high twentys on a long run, and in 3 weeks of 2 mile trips to the beach it still returned 23 mpg.

Take it to a tuner/specialist, they seem to be more useful in every case than main stealerships.

I agree totally with the fact they don't "feel fast" - the refinement and comfort is excellent, so you can feel a bit removed from the experience, but just look in your mirrors at what you've left behind and then down at the speedo, it should surprise you!

The standard 850 T5 does only indicate about halfway into the white zone - if you have it re-mapped, then it will go past that to the end (and beyond?).
Main dealer is correct on this one!

I went straight from driving a Nissan Skyline to driving the 850 T5 estate and for about the first say three shortish journeys wasnt that impressed with the performance.
Then just like everyone else is saying you begin to realise that you are going quick but just dont realise it. Its the slowing down bit that i am having problems with now....Are 850 brakes normally pants?

I had the exact same thing in my 850 - I was so desperate to get more power before I bought the 70 as i thought something was lacking. However, driving a standard 70 then taking the modified 850 out again....WOW its stonkingly quick!! LOL It may just be complacency with the old girl that is giving the impression its slow!

I went from a 2.0 20v 854 to a standard 850 T5 and it felt quick compared to other cars I had driven including V6 cougar, BMW 325i sport, 1984 mercedes 500 sl , Jag XJ12 5,3.
I thought about 2/3 into to the white was what a good standard T5 should do!
My standard T5 would do 140 easily even with 5 passangers I once did 147 on just standard fuel.
Have a proper service check for airleaks and get it RICAd you wont be disapointed then Im sure.
If your cars an auto Ive heard a few people say they were disapointed with the performance as stock.

one check to try...look at how far your passengers heads get pushed into the head rests when you accelerate hard. It's often deceptive for the driver to feel acceleration.....

Hi,My 2nd T5 i owned was like that, top end was okish but it didnt have the punch my previous car had.Turned out to be the fuel pump not giving enough presure.Apparently the mechanic at volvo have seen this before on the odd T5.A new pump fixed it,couldnt believe the difference!!!

jim_from_surrey

did that manifest itself in any other symptoms? pinking sounds or state of the spark plugs?

dannt5
Monday 29th August 2005, 17:04
plugs were fine & no pinking, just low on power past 4000rpm where you would expect it to realy take off, realy struggled to hit the rev limit in 3rd&4th.The one i had before pulled strongly all the way through rev range & had bags of grunt.I did a static fuel pressure test & all seemed as it should be,but the guy at volvo said fuel pump almost instantly & then comfirmed it when he went up road in it.Credit to him tho cos a new pump cured it. :slap:

Could it be a crack in your intercooler pipe work? I found on one of my previous turbo cars this was the case, made the car seem slower and gave really ££££e MPG. Can be very hard to find too, might be worth checking all the hose connections e.t.c aswell..

Since it's a manual, has anyone consider the clutch, pressure plate and the works ?
