View Full Version : I miss my bong.

On my previous car, a BMW 530i Sport I had an audible 'bong' if I'd left my lights on. The S80 doesn't have this facility (or has had it disabled) and I keep leaving my bloody lights on when I park the car during the day. The 'auto lights on' feature seems to have been disabled, and I like to use my lights during the day, esp. in the winter months...
How do I enable this essential feature once more ? Flick a switch ? Push a sequence of buttons on the dash ? Pay the dealer £45 ?
Help me before I get a flat battery......

I was exactly the same when I got my p2 V70. The daytime running lights have been converted so they don't come on, but what I do is leave my headlight switch in the dipped mainbeam position all the time, and then the lights turn off when the ignition is switched off. If I leave the switch in the sidelights position, then they do stay on when the ignition is switched off. I presume that yours is the same?

i leave mine in the dipped position all the time as well, & yes sidelights stay on as the park lights with the ignition off

Thanks guys, after reading the link I'm still none the wiser though.

And I thought this was a thread about your neat cannabis consumption, but in all seriousness my 1972 Rover 2000 TC, 1984 Cavalier and 1989 Skoda Estelle all had a warning alarm if you left your lights on! It is something slight but lacking in every Volvo I have owned but I dont use my side lights apart from on the race track

There's an 'eye' function.

You use an eye (or two) to visually check your car as you leave (windows up doors closed etc...) that should pick up your lights being on!

You get into the habit in Glasgow.... to scan for muggers when you park up.

I'm getting used to this 'eye' function thing but I simply don't like it.
I want my car to do everything for me.....
