Hey Chaps,

My drivers door clicks when you open it, or shut it. Clicks 2 times.

Anyone else have this problem?

Could it be a bent pinholding the metal stap in place that stops the door door being opened too far?

Cheers

Alex

its normally the checkstrap itself, or the strap mount snapped

Mine was doing this, was the mount were the check strap is fastened too, it had broke free! Took the door off and had it welded up, nice and quiet now.

Yep as above check strap. Can be welded as Pault5estate says. We have the same problem with our 850.

Sounds like the checkstrap. I've just changed mine and it took about half an hour and the strap was around £20.00.

These seem to be such a common issue that personally I would go for a new one anyway. Mine was completely broken when I bought my T5 and I had to be careful when opening the door.

Just drives me crazy every time I open the door I get a lovely loud click, click.

Sounds like an old banger when I open the door.

Is it just a bolt of and on job? or angle grinder and welding job?

Can you get the new part from Volvo?

Anyone have a part number?

Cheers

Link above for Volvo 850/V70 checkstrap. It's a case of removing the doorcard and removing a plastic cover. The thing that takes the time is positioning the new one has you don't have much space to manoeuvre it. I did it and I'm no mechanic.

Why buy an after market part when there is very little if any difference in price.
Is the retaining studs tight on the check strap as they often slacken off and you will get the same effect e.g cracking noise.

Fair comment. I only scrolled down the advert as far as where it says: Manufacturer- Volvo. Futher down it mentions 'Aftermarket'.

On my 850 the strap broke on the A-pillar mounting point. The mount itself came away from the pillar and had to be welded back in.
Just dont set fire to your seat while your welding it like i did. lol

Mine started doing this yesterday too. On my old car it snapped and that was that. On the R I will be sorting it properly. Resources so far.
