Its not me saying this. I never knew. 850R manuals ahs a slightly bigger better intercooler?
quote from the original Autocar review.

"Clearly the 850R is an evolution of the T-5R, but the engine and suspension have been subjected to a number of revisions designed to improve both performance and comfort. For this application, the manual version of Volvo’s characterful 2.3-litre 20-valve five-cylinder engine has been equipped with a new intercooler and a larger turbocharger. Together these boost power output from 240bhp to 250bhp at 5400rpm, supported by a thumping 258lb ft of torque between 2400 and 5000rpm".

Interestingly enough I was reading this very article a few days ago too. The only way to determine the facts would be to compare physical sizes, however I imagine the difference is negligable.

Ill take a look on vadis when I get a chance as the only definate way of confirming this would be to look at the part numbers.

Im not doubting Autocar I just find alot of this information is often wrong.

***edit seems pedro beat me to it!!!***

I'd also like to add that, although mine is an auto, the original intercooler I recently blew apart "looked" to be a different design to the replacement one I fitted.. Which came from Emlyns old 854 T-5R ;) The pass on mine seemed slightly wider and the fins between the pass were slightly wider apart. The original cooler was also unpainted where as the replacement cooler was black :)

This was the original one I blew apart, unfortunately I didn't get a shot of the replacement cooler from Emlyn but the core looked very similar to the air con condensor...

quote=The manual 850R with B5234T4 250hp/350Nm engine had an intercooler upgrade. This intercooler upgrade is also to be found in the x70 T5 B5234T3 and x70R B5234T3/B5234T4 1997-1998.
This intercooler will lower the back pressure over the intercooler with 5kPa compared to the B5234T/B5234T5 intercooler.

Part number: 9447006
