Hi guys,

Recently bought myself a 850r auto estate on a 96, the speedo isn't working aswell as the odo, trip mileage count and trip average mpg. Is this a likely case of a bad abs module, theres no abs/tracs lights even on ign...

Also tried the cruise control which doesn't work either, not sure if it's a related issue..... Any advice appreciated before i take the clocks and or send the abs module off for a refurb.

Thanks and a happy Xmas!

I'm guessing you've checked the fuses? ;)

Hi Martin, yes checked all fuses and there all ok. May just replace the abs ones anyway just in case:)

Ok I have changed pretty much all the fuses... Still the same problem, it's funny how the rev counter still operates normally. Any more likely causes for this ?

Get the fault codes read, it could well be the Abs controller as they're known for dry joints on this year plus the stuff that's not working all relies on the Abs system. Wobbly on here used to offer a repair service on them.

Having almost the exact same problem on my T5 but not even rev counter working :( saying that though twice now on random days they all worked for about 100 metres then went straight off again! I've checked all fuses, relays had dash off checked for dodgy conection but carnt seem to pin point the problem driving me nuts also noticed at the same time that Ive lost pressure on boost too! checked for leaks but none noticed just wonder if there's any relation to both issues? Think gona try different clocks to see if it solves at least one of the problems. Have you had much luck ?

Not yet mate, but will be getting it looked at real soon so will let you know how it goes... For the moment looks like the old Satnav is staying out as my speedo:)

P.S.
Let us know if the clocks solve the problem.

I'm not sure if it helps........
but I removed the fuses on my ABS,to stop it from working, which it did, but the
dash still works fine????

I have spare dash/clocks here, minus the trip computer,if you want to try it????

Ah there are my old clocks with "pet" spider in the corner!

Interestingly my speedo stopped counting a couple of days ago, I think it may just be jammed but at present all works bar the odometer.

Try Replacing the speed sensor top of the gearbox, as this went on my auto.

Top of the box nr the back, near the pnp/gear selector 2 wires and it's held in with a 8/10mm from memory.

You can get at it easly from the top of the engine bay.

Would this cause all the clocks and trip computer to not work or just speedo ?

I have the same problem intermittently, I know that the fault with mine is the toothed ring on the hub is worn when my wheel bearing went a couple of years ago. I'll be changing my driveshafts shortly, so it'll be nice to have a reliable speedo again, but at least it's cept the mileage down on the car...lol
