I fitted LED side light bulbs to my old C70 because I didnt like having Xenons that were white and side lights which were yellow, the LED's looked good I did the same on the R but the LED's are far too blue for my taste does anyone know of an LED that would be a colour match to the Xenon on the R?

Look for the ones with "Cree" LEDs in them. Bright white with that crystal blue edge to it.

Thanks Martin, do you think they would be a match then? Mine are supposed to be white but there more an ice blue.

But are you HID's white or do they have a blue tint like most? My xenons are white when there up to temp. Do you remember the ones you bought? My ones were a good bit more expensive than 99p.... even though they could be the same thing i dont know. Didnt want to chance the cheaper ones, if they fail i need to take out my airbox to change them.

I did some research into this as normal white LEDs are too 'cool' a colour, and warm white LEDs are just too yellow a colour. As Martin has said, look for some CREE LEDs as they colour temperture is more in between those two.

These are the only ones I could find on ebay (assuming you want the T10 base for your new R)

If you enter your car details into the Autobulbs direct car selector thing, it should tell you all the available bulbs for the car, with no obligation to buy from them! That's what I've just done with my p1 V70 T5, before buying the bulbs on eBay.

Most Volvo dipped beam run H7 bulbs. The 35W balasts are more than enough to give you the intensity. You can spend extra on 50W balasts but there is little point IMHO. You need to choose the lght colour. 8000K are a bit blue for my liking. I have 6000K ones. I also run HID on main beam. Takes a little while to warm up - flashing still works fine - & it is only the first time you put them on that it takes 10 seconds for them to come to full strength.

I recommmend using H7R bulbs on reflectors to avoid glare.

Best to take out your dipped beam bulbs - find out the size & choose a kit accordingly.

Sides can be done with LEDs - again it is just a case of matching the bulb size to the replacement.

It's 35W (watts) and 50W (watts), not V (Volts). The starting voltage for the bulbs is about 20 - 30,000 Volts!!

Sorry Wobbly but i had to correct you there fella before it went on a tangent and a world of confusion. :remybussi

FAO Al and Martyn, i had leds in my front side bulbs but i didn't really like the non oem look. They also were not as good at filling the lense with light as an oem bulb. So i outed them and refitted new 5W wedge bulbs. Much better light and look stunning against the Bi-Xenons (I think). the leds i tried were 9 led per bulb. They were incredibly bright but in the wrong reflector they are crap! Work amazing as front sides in a Vivaro with the late shape headlamp cluster. Got them in my AA van and they are blinding...literally!!!

Naturally, I didn't fit them. For a laugh, a few weeks ago, I thought I'd stick em in and was surprised to find they are actually bright white! I'll get a pic later if you like? For the money, a pair of 100W main beam bulbs and sidelights can be nicely disposable but they haven't blown and I'm still using them:)

Hi just got me my 4th set of LEDs for the headlights sidelights and these match the main lights (xenons) great at last!!!!! here are some photos before and after.

got them of -bay for only !!!!!!!! 17 pounds !!!!!!! for two just got fed up with the yellows ones big time.

The photo with the yellow side light did have the blue bulb fitted.
they are a nice fit in the holders and they are just about the same size as the blue bulb.
Also no problems with them flashing when turned off.
Its like night and day the difference and they do fill the lamp unit with light not just a bright spot like the other types i have tried, HAPPY at last.

Also no problems with them flashing when turned off.
Its like night and day the difference and they do fill the lamp unit with light not just a bright spot like the other types i have tried, HAPPY at last.

Thats It!!! thank you I have ordered them and thats the last of my pay pal money :) so this will be the end of all my bulb replacements on the R, there has been a few. Cant wait to get all my new LED's fitted.
You can tell these are a quality product unlike most of the rubbish looking ones on the bay

Hi I think you will be very happy with them, they are a great match and really do fill the unit up with light ,I also changed the turn lamp amber bulb to a amber/chrome bulb which looks good that yoke colour now gone.
Just to ask about LED'S has anyone led up there puddle lights on the mirrors yet if so do you know the type of lamp required?.

Ah, that's the other thing I want to do is silver indicator bulbs. Any recommendations on these? I've seen some cheapies fitted to other cars before but they are not very bright at all to the point they're hard to spot in the daylight.

And I think I'm going to have a try at the Osram LEDs you've used when I fit my HIDs. You got a link to where you bought them from?

Harvey
Wednesday 25th April 2012, 22:40
Hi S1mon got them -bay but the pins were inline which means they would not fit so just removed one of the pins with a file that's the chrome bulbs the amber ones in the car have offset pins to fit the base.

S1mon
Wednesday 25th April 2012, 22:43
Cool, pretty sure you can get them with offset pins though. I'm also just looking into LED reversing lights. Anyone done that?? This would really benefit me as I often reverse back into my parking space at night so as much illumination as possible would be brilliant!

Looking at these: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/382-Super-Bright-27-LED-360-Degree.html?bulb_search=c29086

Or these: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/382-Super-Bright-6-LED-Bulb.html?bulb_search=c29086

The second ones, although they have less LEDs in them, seem like they'll be a bit more directional and throw light out the back of the car further!?

I have ordered the puddle light LED's they are the same as the ones in the number plate.
I also changed my reverse lights to LED they arent much brighter than standard but they look nice.
I have also changed the indicators to the chrome ones, I just bought the Ebay ones and they are perfect, they are bright enough so no problems there. Much cheaper then halfords.

Hi folks
As a relative newbe to Volvo ownership. Can someone explain whats involved with swopping the headlight and sidelight bulbs on my 2004 V70 Ex plod T5?
Got a blown dipped beam bulb so got some of e-bay now just got to find the time to change em over. Is it straight forward? How much time should I allocate for this job?
Thanks in advance

I've tried 2 different sets of LEDs in my sidelights and both sets turn off once the engine is switched on so I've given up. Got LED puddles and Number plate and reverse lights and they look really good. I'll do a piccie next time I'm home and it's dark. Guessing my R just doesn't want LED sidelights at all. One of the sets were Osram too. :-(

Heres the pictures of the Osram leds then. The sidelights are just a tiny bit more blue than the actual main head light, but its as perfect as I think I will get. The number plate bulbs are bright but not too bright for my taste, I am very very happy with the results. I just hate the look of the spot lights now :( Hopefully my interior bulbs will turn up soon!!!

Its something I thought about, but TBH I dont want to spend that much on them just for that, and I'm not keen on HID kits I think I would have to do some bodging to get them to actually fit.

Hi have been trying LEDs in the front fogs but not working yet.
There is a lens in the R lamp units also a tin plate that sets the beam setting which can be adjusted.
When I fitted LEDs it's more like tea lights than fogs lights.

Nice we'll let me know if you can get these to work, i'm honestly not interested in how bright they are, they are a waist of time anyway, its just a style thing i'm after so that when I flick my get home lights on everything will match. I've noticed the new V50's have DRL leds and they look to be in the spotlight location so I think they have done away with the actual fog functionality, I wonder if they would work

here are some of the fog lights lamps i have tried

the top one just changed the colour

the middle well looked like a tea light

the lower one nice colour but had to grind the fog lamp holder to get it to fit, not much fun, colour was spot on but the lens on the lamp unit just didn't work in the fog-lamp own lens, next thing i am going to try is remove lens on the led unit.
