This is my, was Dad's now mine, Volvo 740 GL. A.K.A Matilda.
Probably not the best Picture, since it was done early morning and I have been a little busy of late, but may put better shots up somepoint, but you can see she needs a bit, or a lot of superficial work doing on her, mainly.... the Paintwork. The wipers are off the Escort just to get her through M.O.T. now back to standard blacks.
I have given her;
Brand new rear lights (old ones where smashed and naff)
new front sidelights and indicators (old ones where brittle and some jealous person had hit one)
two new Tires (not needed but they kept going down)
new brake flexi hoses all round
New front Calipers (you wouldn't believe it took 7 weeks and 5 different calipers to be delivered before I got the correct drivers one)
Power steering Banjo-pipe-thingy
and a wash.

and done 800-900 miles within the first 8 weeks of getting back on the road. (going 440-ish to Bratton and back)

But one other thing that I find more bugging and is more annoying is the interior roof lining. It's started to sag, and has acquired holes and peely areas where if you touch it (normally the kids or with your head as you fasten the kids in) It has a tendency to shower you in manky dried up foam.

anybody have much idea on the adhesive and felt best used to repair said problem? assuming I figure out how to remove the 'roof' bit first xD haha.

Thanks smithy, Main plans for the 740 is to keep her 'standard' possibly refurb the alloy's. Would love to make her a sleeper and drop a nice t5 lump or bigger in her. For the escort i need to remake the floor as the last winter rotted it away, so that needs doing before her shows start in may. I've a lot of work to do, hehe.
Always loved volvo's though, possibly cos I grew up in them.

the only engines i would put in a rwd volvo is redblock turbo or t6 motor or ls1,2,3,4,5,6,7 lol,you will have to bring the rs to one of our drag meets mate would be nice to see how it goes

Arh I misread a bit, the escort isn't an RS bit just a standard 1.6 ghia, albeit a few tweaks on her. Just too good a car to throw away when she does 51mpg. Not sure how well she does on track etc, but am curious. As for the Volvo, I take it that the backend would kick out a lot? Already done that's few times before and once today in tescos, hehe.

Iv just lined the rood of my 940 in a black felt. My dad converts vans into motorhomes and its the stuff they put on the walls of the van. It comes in a variety of colours and is put of with trim adhesive out of a can. It cost me off my dad £3 a square metre so its dirt cheap and the spray is about £6 a can.

Its alot lighter than the standard roof lining weiging about 1-2kg for the whole roof. The standard is about 5/6kg. Not much but all counts.

If i remember and have time il take some pics.

Im believe the same as smithy, i don't see the point in sticking a t5 engine in. The redblock can handle 350break which I think is the same as the t5, i maybe wrong. Its fairly easy and cheap to get 300break out of it.

Cheers joe, I've been looking up all sort's of fabrics etc on the net but I'm more beaten on the adhesive side of what I should use, found one for headliners and is hi temp (to 120'c) though it's only a small 500ml can... Guessing I'll need more then one.

nice 740! From what I rememver the 740s used to sag on teh roofs quite a lot.

Im also going to go against the grain here and say the t5 is a good idea in an old Volvo. why? Because Im doing such thing and I like to be different. everyone goes for a redblock and the T5 lump sounds amazing if nothing else. :)
