My in-car telephone has never worked. I have tried a few different sim cards bot to no avail. All that happens is it says "please wait..." and nothing else.

Any suggestions?

Just a stab in the dark here....
I presume your putting it in the '03 S60 ?
Maybe the phone is not 3rd generation - only guessing but are the SIM's 3G ? - ie smartphone / internet enabled ?
If so ask your co for a "Standard" SIM, that may work - as I think 3G came in around 2005
So that maybe the issue - if not pop down maplin and get some contact/switch cleaner and a lint free cloth - if you can get at the sim contacts and give them a spring clean that may help.

Vodafone dont do non-3g sims, and it says "please wait" with or without a sim. I see you line of thought but...

Ah - sounds like its not regestering on the network.
Try giving the IMIE number to Voada just in case its not on the network or could try and check the antenna is connected ?

I have an 03 V70R and i ordered a free sim from O2 on Simplicity. Popped in in and it works perfectly.
It really is plug and play. If yours is not working then a trip do your local should sort things out.
