Why to people swap the 15g for a 16t as an upgrade? The turbos flow almost exactly the same. Take a look at the compressor maps!!

The 16t flows 435cfm and the 15g 428cfm.

Looking at these maps there's absolutely no point upgrading at all? Am I missing something? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm no expert.

the 15g is good for low down torque but the 16t is better for mid to top end power mate its the design of the turbo that is different compressor wheel etc.

They both support the same pressure ratio though so the difference would be very minor at best wouldn't it mate? Scott (Frobes2) is running 285bhp on his 850 using a 15g. My old 850 ran 313 bhp at powerstation on a 15g and decat? I just don't see how it's worth the effort and money upgrading to a 16T?

what other mods did you use to get a 15g to 313bhp mate?

I bought it off a guy on here (Shaun 850) already done. Had graphs from powerstation. He said it just had remap, full 3inch decat, MBC, injectors and huge cone filter. Was quicker than my mates 19T'd S70. If I remember right it ran around 1.5 bar boost.

i dont see how you can get +90bhp with just just those mods a remap will only take to around 250-260

Prob not mate. It was custom mapped though, not an off the shelf jobbie. All I can say is it had graphs but with the other discussions going on the forum graphs actually seem to mean nowt and are usually discredited as inaccurate. It did a 14.1 on the 1/4 though.

I agree. 16 pulls harder than a 15, not loads more. just feels stronger.

following that lnky (and thank you very ,much bby the way as I have a 16t for mine and wanted to check what sort of boost delivery I was likley to see)
they do look quite different in that the pressure ration for the 15g drops off much earlier with air flow than the 16t - look at the 130k speed line that drops below 2.0 significantly earlier.

Very interesting stuff. Although its all based on teh 3000gt V6 some of the approach is relevant to our engines. I wonder if we have any experts at this level or are our home grown guru's just rolling Road trial and error bods?

Yeah mate. Dont be fooled by the maxi,um flow figures. Unless you are flowing more than that it makes no odds anyway(the flow calcs are in the linky)
Its the way the pressure is dleivered at different flow rates and compressor speeds that dicttes how it matches its power deluivery to your engine. All the comments from other users in this thread are probably more use than trying to inerpret the charst without really understanding them. I would do the mod then compare the charts so you get a feel for what it means in reality.

Something that needs to be taken into consideration is the heat that is generated by the creation of the pressure. A smaller turbo will have to work harder to achieve greater boost pressures when compared with a larger turbo and it comes to a point when the charge air temperatures climb beyond that of performance enhancing and can be detrimental to the power levels achieved. Therefore meaning you are actually better off running lower boost pressures to achieve greater gains. Large amounts of boost is not the only key to the performance locker despite what some say ;)

Not a lot of difference at all, Both cars being equial.

But i found you have to work a 15g harder to keep with a car running a 16t.

Thanks for the info guys. When I get a spare 5 mins i'll look into how to read the maps properly. I've only really skimmed over them so far but just brought it up as I thought it would be interesting what people thought.
