hey there my clutch is on its way and its a bad time, i have little money right now but...
there is an 850r breaking on here..

1.will an 850R clutch work on my 2.3 t5 c70gt ?

2.can the clutch be changed reasonably easy by two amatuer mechanics in a garage with lots of tools and an engine lift?

any advice is greatly recieved, i really need to keep the c70 going!!

Providing you have a single mass flywheel, yes the 850 clutch will work.

It's S***e job but with time and a Garge etc it's possible, Recomend droppin the whole subframe, engine and Box. Be carefull of the rack tho, you dont wanna pull the columm out.

Just to confirm what the other guys have said, my '97 S70 had a dual mass flywheel before I swapped to a SMF & 850R clutch, as did the 98 C70 T5 that I broke a couple of years ago. I'm not sure any of the x70 series had a single mass flywheel TBH.

what was the differences in smoothness and how quickly the revs rise and fall with the smf chris?

TBH mate you do lose a bit of refinement switching to the SMF, other than that there wasn't much of a change. The only reason for me was I wanted to use an 850R clutch (supposidly the strongest P1 clutch), as my brand new standard clutch was slipping. 850R clutch has been good as gold ever since.

had i known that when my clutch went that's what i would have bought, a new dual mass is over £700 so i bought a secondhand engine with one on for £300 plus £582 for the clutch and fitting

aww man duel mass is such a waste of time!!
the revs fly away when under full power, the boost needle goes to 16psi in say 3rd then the revs go from 3.5 to 5.5k real fast and the car only gradually goes faster, but the car drives fine when you drive it normally,

looks like i probably bought the wrong clutch :-(
the worst thing is i cant sell the car, how much is a c70 worth with a slipping clutch? nothing!

it is an old single flywheel, but....
turns out the new clutch kit i bought from ebay is for an 02 on c70 grrrr!
the seller said it was for a 98 to 02 ! wahhh!!

Very interesting you say that becuase I am certain they were all dual mass... the flywheel on my R reg S70 which is also on a throttle cable is dual mass.

i had a long conversation with the parts guy and he could'nt say for definate until i went and wrote down the chassis no,
when i gave it to him there was a minutes silence then he said its a standard clutch fly wheel setup but literally a couple of months after my car was made they went to duel mass!!

im just thinking sell or swap the damn thing with a slightly slipping clutch and let the next guy worry about it,
too much trouble for its own good!!!

good idea but i dont know if i have a mr clutch here in cornwall,
we have an a.t.s, i tried quickfit but they could'nt even quote a price, they simply said its a 5 to 5 and a half hour job and would cost a substantial lump, their words!!
