Was going to get a 16t for my 850 which has the 15g as standard but just been told by a ecu tuning company not to waste my money as the gains are minimal.who can shed some reliable light on this?i dont want to go through all the hassle if this is right.with a ecu upgrade on the 15g i will see around 60bhp between 3 and 4 thousand revs with great ft lbs.useing the 16t there really isnt much if any difference????????doing the rip mod also shows no power gains?
I need to know what difference if any???thanks to all who reply

is this ecu tuning company a volvo specialist? cos they all chat **** mate, you will see about 50nms improvement at 4000rpms and probably 25 bhp at the top end but you will really notice the difference, a 16t upgrade is a good thing as is a much better turbo than the 15g, a rip kit dont boost power just reduces turbo lag

i know the hlm ecu will give me around 60bhp between 2.5 and 3.5 thousand revs with a good increase in torque useing the 15g

I think 16t spins up harder and faster, going on what I've seen here recently.

A remap alone will not give you an extra 60bhp!!! Who told you that?!!

so far i have read conflicting stories about the 16t being better then the 15g~?some say the 15g spools much quicker and mated with a good ecu upgrade makes the 16t not a good buy??others say the opposite??im just trying to find out who is right???thanx

Personel preference mate, yes the 15g spools quicker but runs out of puff quicker but there is not much in it with the 16t, if i was you save the money on the 16t and get the car mapped properly :)

Lol! Don't pay too much attention to what Hamish Lindsay has to say. Like many 'tuners' out there he'll just tell you what you want to hear!

260bhp is realistic from a remap alone, if everything is in good order. The HLM remaps are copies of old RICA remaps, which used to sell for £500+ so they are good value for money, but far from the best available IMO.

The 15g does spool up marginally quicker and is a bit more brutal than a 16t. But a 16t is still a small ish turbo, and is far from laggy, with better mid range and top end power to be had. With just a remap, there won't be much difference to be honest.

The HLM/Rica remaps are quite basic, with not that dis-similar characteristics from an MBC, giving a big kick early on, giving the impression of big power, but inevitably running out of puff up top, whether that be a 15g or 16t.

I think you mis-heard Hamish, he always says to customers realistically you will see a max of 270hp with a possible extra 60nmt - if the car is producing standard hp in the first place and is in very good condition.

My 850 T5 with the standard 15g was 222bhp before my HLM remap and 257bhp afterwards, with the £150 remap, a pipercross panel filter and the actuator adjusted properly.

Hamish couldnt do enough to help me and even stayed late to finish my car off properly.

I cant fault the remap on my car, it completely transformed it, the drive home was very good fun indeed ;)
