Is there any auto sparks on here that may help????

I have a contact to call but haven't had the time yet.

The signal in the V70 is rubbish, Its almost non existent when im driving, its not worth listening to. I took it into two radio install places (like halfords but more specialist) they hadn't a clue were to start, so they cant be that good. All one of them done was remove my stereo and make sure it was all connected!!!

Is the ariel wire in the rear side window complete and connected? a scratch across it would be enough to break the connection and ruin the signal?

Yip it seems to be, I've been thinking about taking the panel off to see what happens behind there. I dont like taking panels off it usually will introduce a new rattle into the cabin

Maybe just give the little connector plugs on the glass a bit of a wiggle with the radio on see what happens? I'd grab a magnifying glass and have a real close look at the strip on the glass too before I go pulling panels off. Maybe test continuity between the plugs on the glass and the ariel plug in the back of the head unit.
Good luck bud.

On the contrary...I had rattles in the rear cabin area. Took all the panels off, cleaned/hoovered and put back together. All rattles gone!!

Volvo do a roll of Anti rattle tape. Its expensive at £30 but you do get about 10m of the stuff. Its wide and can be cut and one side has very, very sticky adhesive.

Testing continuity on the Aerial won't tell you jack. You need to check Ohms resistance. Find out from Volvo what the resistance should be and then check yourself. If Volvo won't tell you then take the car to a car Aerial specialist (not a car radio shop) and get them to check for you. You could always compare with another V70.
it could be a faulty receiver in the headunit and not the aerial. this would be the first place i would look. Have Volvo fit a doner headunit and check the signal strength then. Its very simple to do and very quick way of checking. If your glass aerial looks ok visually then chances are it is ok. They are very resiliant.

its an amplified antenna isnt it ?
it should have a small box inline somewhere, probably in the rear panel,
make sure it has power supply,if thats not working then youwont get much joy from the antenna on its own,
check fuses etc as knowing what those are like for fuse box issues etc.

Exactly what my dad has told me to do. Failing this i will try the radio from my dads car

I read a Volvo tech report on repairing the rear window aerial. They use a special metallic paint (tippex with metal flakes in it I guess) and use masking tape to create a link in the broken track on the window.

AFAIK, you should be able to get this repair stuff off ebay or a local motor factor possibly if it does turn out to be the aerial.

And if the aerial is the same as an 850, there is a box just below the window behind the panel which the aerial connects to, I guess this is the amplifier.
