Before we start, please, no knob jokes!.....

I am trying to get a replacement manual gear knob for a V70, 2004 spec Charcoal interior. Bit the bullet and bought one from volvo. It arrived and is far too lighter grey. We are on the fourth one now and still no match. Part number is 8698155. The main dealer has offered to contact volvo but this seems to get nowhere. Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone know where I can get one that is virtually black like the interior?

I need a cream one for my 850R and am fast coming to the conclusion that I am going to have to pay a specialist to reupholster the old one. Probably about the same as buying one direct from Volvo - but I guess the colour would be right.

A specialist leather company should be able to recolour it to the right tone. Problem you will have is that leather does fade so any new parts will never match what you have perfectly.

Thanks for that. Even allowing for fading the colour match is quite bad. Will look at upholsterers if I get no joy from Volvo.

Visited the main dealer again today. Gear knob five still no good. They asked for one more opportunity to get a match so agreed and drove away. They seemed to have ordered the V70R version!!! This evening the Mrs decided enough was enough and had a go at repairing the exising one. Hey, what could go wrong?!

Anyway, will be calling the dealer tomorrow to cancel the order. Some dark nylon thread, black oil dye and resoline protective coating and I would challenge anyone to tell it had been repaired.

Very happy and money back in the bank.
