View Full Version : Brand new Volans!!! Well, nearly... :)

At long last got my Volans back from refurbishment at Lepsons of Gillingham today. I promise I will post photos tomorrow - but fitted them in the dark so pictures would not have done them any justice. Goodness me, I thought they would look good - but Lepsons made them look even better than that!

I was really impressed by the Lepsons factory - this is no back street refurbisher, they are extremely well set up, and obviously do hundreds of sets a week - people I know in the car trade tell me it is THE place to get wheels done. The place is really impressive and I have to say worth every penny of the £260 for having the four done.

All I can say is that if I had bought a brand new 850R in 1996, the wheels would not have looked better. They are simply magnificent.

About blooming time that car sat on a set of Volans again!

The OCD side of me comes in really handy sometimes - I have spent the last 18 months practicing my 'kerb drill'! Mind you, it will be Buggery's Law that I will kerb one now I've said that - still, it isn't the end of the world as I have a couple of spares and Lepsons did a mega job on this lot - I wish I had take some 'before' pictures though because what they do is just mindblowing.

Worth every penny indeed, I would consider renewing your locking wheel nuts some of us know where you live!!! ;)

Those that are kind enough will put unrefurbed Volans back on...

Wow. Thanks for showing what Lepsons can do, I spent £100 more than that for no greater result

Try a set of old skool "kerb feelers" lol

It always amazes me, especially on this forum, how many people arse up their nice alloy wheels on kerbs.....

TBH I am VERY fussy and they have returned me something that I cannot distinguish from a brand new wheel. I have seen some really duff results at wheel refinishers and I think this lot are such good (comparative) value - actually no more than some mobile resprayers. You can watch a lot of the process going on and the workshops are really pretty impeccable. What I like most is that they strip the whole wheel and put it on a proper lathe (looks like it came from the old Chatham Dockyard!) to re-turn the edges - and of course they are powder coated not painted.

Itchy feet now to get the Titans done - they would look the NUTS!

Did you give them a Volvo paint code to work to r is that one "off the shelf"?

Oh yes and where did you get your centre caps from?

Well, a lot of paintshops just scan the paint and match accordingly these days...but in this case it was one of their standard anthracites but it is so close to the original that it doesn't matter. They would have coloured them any colour at all. The caps were on the car when I got it - but I think they are XC90 or similar. They do seem to crop up on Ebay quite a lot though.

Looking good Phil, Lepson's certainly do make a great job of it! Had mine done by them 4 years ago and still loving the finish today.

One thing to remember it's not an 850R without Volan's so get those nasty thoughts about the Titans out of your head ;)

Yes they do and they are still a lovely wheel, but not quite as good as the Volan's ;)

Are all the new style center caps just badges that stick on?
I got some for mine and they stick out on the originals (yes i did remove the old badge first), thought i must have got the wrong size or something but from looking at other peoples it looks like my original center caps are different and that they are the problem.

The original centre cap badges are slightly narrower than the updated badges.

I didn't realise you could just get the badges on their own.... lol

Tbh the actual cap part is different anyway, I think they're more recessed which is why they get away with the thicker badges..

I can't remember exactly, don't think they were too dear. Less than £10.00 each I think... Just ask for a set from an XC90 or facelift phase II 05my on V70 and they should fit. Either that or I shall see if there is a part number on the wheel centre in my spare wheel, easier to remove ;).

T5R Titans, 850R Volans and V70R classic Comets, they all look good, but keep them on the correct cars, otherwise it is sacriledge lol.
