Just a update, the angled hose off the throttle body points up, So i've taken the plastic elbow section from top intercooler and conected it to the throttle body so nowit all points down towards the bottom of the cooler.

I have cut a 90 degree elbow from the off cuts from the top metal pipe work and used this to connect the throttle body hose to the bottom of the Intercooler yippee!

All i have got to do now is connect the top of the Turbo to the top of the intercooler. Again using the Metal pipework which is Now Straight, and may be having to cut the Boost hose Top of Cooler so it's a short 90 degree bend upwards.

Will take some pic's when she's all done

have seen someone before make a RIP kit using the original pipework, think he had to purchase a small straight section. He cut the fuel injector rail in halve to make it line up correctly which didn't look good

lmao. I meant the cover that clips to the top of the rail, not the actual fuel rail lol

Ok here goes, before we start let me just say this is a very easy mod, all you need is 2 x 90 degree bent pipes supplied via your old pipes and 1 x 24" x 55mm straight pipe i paid a £5 for mine, and a couple of 3" bulldog clips.
I have gone out and bought some 55mm silicone hose for cosmetic reasons (cost £10) however the original hoses will do the job.

1, first i took the top intercooler pipe off and cut it so it was just a 90 degree bent pipe (first pic)

2, removed top intercooler hose (near rad) then measured the straight alloy pipe from the 90 degree turbo pipe...cut to size then cut and re-use the top intercooler hose, connect the 3 up, the turbo pipe has to be turned slightly to face the top intercooler opening and thats the top done.

3, The bottom intercooler connections again just need a 90 degree bent pipe again sourced from you old pipes (dont use any of the plastic ones as you cant tighten with the clips without crushing.
The throttle body pipe needs turning slightly clockwise but not much.
the lower alloy intercooler pipe remains as original, again connect all 3 and thats the bottom done.

4, I cut the fuel rail guard in half to go around the top pipe, the pipe dosnt touch the fuel rail but you could put a small rubber protector there if you like.

5, if your alloy pipe comes rough you can rub it up with glass paper and then autosol for a nice shine.

make sure all clips are tight and if your going to do it right then why not take the intercooler off and flush it as its bound to have oil in.
I flushed with a small amount of petrol, i did it 4 times till it ran clear, take care to let all the petrol evaporate before fitment.

I also nioticed today my car had more boost! 1.1 bar as a pose to 1bar usual

Hope this helps anyone out there.

Well Done Pedro, I've gone a slightly different way of doing it, but made a mock up of it tonight and fitted it. (roughly) gonna do a few adjustments and fit it. Then post some picks.

My Feed from the top curves over the engine Slightly so you dont have to cut the Rail.

Will post same pic's when i'm happy (no laughing please) Doh!!

For metal piping go to B&Q, look for table legs

I bought a generic kit off ebay - T-bar clips are very nice. The right angle tubes are just the right height to clear the block. Pipes are 57mm though you can go larger (not much point given the outlet size of most turbos & FMICs)

I can share the link if you want?

ASH - have their own shop

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Auto-Performance-Silicone-Hoses

here is the 57mm kits

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Auto-Performance-Silicone-Hoses/Intercooler-Kit-/_i.html?_nkw=57mm&submit=Search&_fsub=10799242&_sid=69199769

Quality seems fine & decent for the price. I cut down 1 of the 45 degree pipes to get the right length.

You may have to fiddle about with the throttle intake pipe for manual throttle cars, but the over-the-top pipe distance should be similar (mine is ME7)

What are the advantages of having the pipework this way opposed to standard? Is it a mod worth considering?

Wobbly Dave
Wednesday 7th September 2011, 01:04
its cheap - mod is a very small advantage - will not give more power but could shorten spool up times.

Might get round to doing it sometime then. They look quite good piped up that way too. I had a look at thet link you put up and that kit seems decent value for money.
