I have checked on Vadis (volvo part no computer) there is only one fitment of single mass flywheel for the 850 T5.

The flywheel im assuming is the one smithness gave you which is the correct wheel.

May sound obvious but have you tried a different map/ecu in the car? The ecu may be faulty or have a rev limiter set low.

av tryed my ecu in another car and it hits 6400rpm , had the car on the rollers and it only went to 5500rpm on the dyno aswell , bit sick of this now like tbh , checked the part numbers that i got off volvo for the sensors and all is okay , just havent checked the flywheel thats on

Could it be your clocks? I've got a set here from an ex plod p1 v70 if you want to try them?

The dyno said it went to 5500rpm so a don't think it could be like m8

If your car is working up to 5500rpm your sensors wont be the problem unless they are breaking down quite drastically. If it's the same after trying spare good sensors its not the sensors. It sounds as if you have a mechanical problem limmiting the engine turning at speeds beyond 5500rpm. Things that could be a problem are incorrectly fitted upper bearing cover causing a problem with your cams and maybe a gearbox problem but unlikely. Those are just suggestions but try looking more at mechanical issues causing a resricting problem.

If you have had the cams out the upper head cover is the bearing cover and if it wasn't fitted correctly it may be a cuase of some of your problems or it may not be lol.

abit left field but how old is your air filter? years ago i had a motorbike that wouldnt rev past 9k. i tried everything to sort it. last thing i did was change the air filter for a bmc. took it for a spin after that and it went stright to the red line

Sounds like your car des not rev high enough as I reached around 96MPH in Third.

al recheck mine again , but that seems about right , the 1000rpm difference would be bigger than 90 to 96mph , i think lol
cheers alan

Assuming that the gear ratios in your box for 2nd, 3rd and 4th are 1.77:1, 1.19:1 and 0.87:1 retrospectively with a final drive of 4.00:1 all as stated by Volvo for a 1996 850 using the standard wheel/tyre setup of 205/45/17 then at 6,000 rpm you should acheive the following real road speeds.

2nd - 61.2 mph
3rd - 91.0 mph
4th - 124.5 mph

Your speedo indicated speeds will have slight inaccuraces to what is shown above, I propose that your RPM counter is out/faulty.

What do you think it could be if the rev counter shows a lower RPM that it could potentially be?
