and hopefully you have a decent machine to code it for you once fitted?

only because i thought when you unplug your etm it goes into limp mode till new one is coded to car by the main stealer.

This isn't the case with the xemodex unit as it comes pre-coded.
Anyway its now fitted and all appears well. only downside was getting charged £88 import duty but nevermind :-)

having a read up & it looks like they've replaced the Volvo's mechanical ETM with a digital version LINK (http://xemodex.com/xemodex_013.htm)

Indeed there is now a viable alternative to volvos crap design although it comes at a price i think including getting stung on the import duty it came to about £520 after you get your deposit back for your old unit. however it does come with a 'limited lifetime warrenty' although im yet to find out what that means. ordered the unit 8pm Thursday evening and it was at my local depot Saturday morning not bad seeing as it came from canada shame they don't deliver at the weekend. all postage is included in the price.
happy days :-)

Ouch! good that they have bypassed Volvos cauldron of darkness, but shame about the price - maybe in time it will come down, as I know the local Volvo near me charge £448.96 all in including software (well that's what they got back to me with, it may have been a trap to lure me in, next thing you know they are wearing my skin etc)

i wonder if that includes all the labour. I know when i asked then for a quote to decode a radio it was only £1, they'd forgot to tell me about the 1hr min labour charge for doing it

The sly monkeys! no, but got the missis to phone up and ask if it uncluded everything including software and labour etc - they said yes, so have to take there word for it - but definately would run it by them again before I handed over the keys. Think they phoned her back to confirm the price, but you never know.

Good to hear the cars sorted Dave, even if it was at a fair price let's hope it's the end of it all :)

Well its partly sorted that's just the first bit lol rev still drop below idle and feels like its going to stall when you let the revs coast down too far (ie from 2.5k + down)
oh and i still think im still running very rich frequent backfire when coming off a run and smells heavily of petrol at all times think it might be the 1st o2 sensor as i think i read that it can cause the ecu to alter the mixture its reading a constant 0.44 volts across the rev range and under load think its suppose to change so might need to change that next... oh the joy lol

Dave,

Re: Your poor idle and rich mixture these are the symtoms of an ETM that needs programming !! You don't need to go to dealer any Independent Volvo Specialist with an Autologic (Independent Dealer Level Diagnostic Tool) can programme the ETM for you at a fraction of the cost of the dealers. If you are anywhere near Bromsgrove give me a call.

Regards,
Hamish.

Hi,

Just had a thought. You have put it back together properly with a new gasket? An air leak could also give these symtoms.

Hamish.

Hamish, do these xemodex ETM's need programming? thought they came pre-programmed from the states via VIN number.
Apologies if i sound like a numpty asking that question.
I have a ME7 T5 so want to explore all avenues should i have any problems.
