Hi guys,

My thrust bearing makes an awful racket so will probably get my clutch done in the near future, or if I decide to start from scratch and build an engine it would go in that. Which clutches for T5's are interchangable? I ask this because I see V70/S70 T5 clutches going for 80 odd quid cheaper on ebay than 850 T5 ones? Also I am aiming in the future to run 350ish bhp. Which of the T5 clutches would be best to handle this power? 850R, V70??

Any advice much appreciated.

Mitch.

an 850R clutch will do the job

Thanks for the reply! Does the 850r clutch differ from the V70/S70 T5 then?

i haven't got Vadis anymore so can't compare part numbers i'm afraid. I do know the 850R is stronger than the 850 T-5, but whether Volvo updated the S/V70's to the same clutch i've no idea

Thanks mate. I'm just researching everything atm. I've always wanted to rebuild an engine and might buy a second hand lump to gradually build it to my spec as funds allow. I don't fancy ordering the wrong parts hence the questions lol

mitch my thrust relaease bearing makes an awful rachet too, I wouldnt worry too much about it to be honest. If the clutch starts slipping then I would change it.

I have Vadis but dont have access to my PC for about a week. If you havnt confirmed your answer by then I will get back to you.

Thanks Mr Moose. I might sound very thick here but what is Vadis? A part number checker?

Thanks.

No Im the thick one for not explaining it. Vadis is the Volvo diagnostics and schematics computer. It details every single component and procedure for maintaining every model of Volvo... a very useful piece of software.

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds really useful indeed. How do I get hold of Vadis or is it only for Volvo dealers etc??

That's not the number for the SMF clutch kit. it had a few more 2's in it IIRC. my kit was about £300 inc the bearing, the bearing alone is £100 for a pattern one on Ebay.

the M59 has a vicous coupling on the driveshaft which works as a basic limited slip diff. It also has the better clutch which also fits the M56H (found on normal T-5's)

That's the thing mate. Because he was bull****ting me so much about the car i haven't got a clue what it has and hasn't got. Hopefully Niles and Justin will be able to shed some light on this today. Cheers.

sounds like your going to have a good meet, shame i'm not closer. If you need any parts make sure Niles gets them for you & not Justin, he tends to order the wrong bits lol

sure they fitted the slave cylinder internally on the later cars, can't remember if they changed it when they went S/V70 or changed to ME7 (1999 on)

Think (will have to check on vadis) they changed to the concentric slave cylinder around 1997/98 (so when they went x70 range). Apparently it was to try and cure a a clutch judder problem (or something vibration related).

What a great idea someone had to put the thing inside the bellhousing and have it integrated in with the release bearing so it would cost 3 times as much to replace FFS.

LOL yeah.

Apparently the CSC also makes the pedal feel lighter as it does away with the lever and pivot associated with an external slave cylinder.
