I was going up an on ramp on a private road with a bmw 120 d alongside, I let it go in second and he kept up just dropping behind when going into forth then not by much, I so depressed, I thought my Volvo was quick. The 120 d is 165 BHP.

if you're depressed now - whatever you do don't read the mpg figures for the 120d

but to cheer you up, think about this, would a great dane / wardrobe / drumkit be comfortable in the back of a 120d? And is a 120d around 16 years old?!

Didn't think so!

Stage 1 - 177bhp to 217bhp.... he could have had more mods than stage 1!

There's probably posts on other forums like yours, when they get wasted to 70mph :) by my unbadged S40 up Motorway sliproads.

a 120d is a fast car standard its not the bhp it has its the torque that keeps it up of which it has 330nms which a t5 has. yesterday i had a big mercedes ml350cdi new one up my chuff so i thought i would give it some welly off a duel carrieageway off a roundabout and did really well in keeping up in my s70r i even had my remapped ecu in, i was only just pulling away i reckon if i was standard it would have kept up figures are 231bhp for that but a whopping 540nms of torque.

A remapped T5 should have in the region of 400-450nm ... and weights about 15% less than one of those big mercs.

That gives it a weight adjusted torque of 460-510nm.... should be a match :) T5 is quite possibly the torquiest petrol engine ever produced (and I don't mean loads of torque at 4000rpm when your turbo has finally woken up like them Evos!)

Loads of people get their Turbo Diesels remapped too... he could have been running 260-270 with EVEN more torque!

We have a 120d 177 m sport at work, if you think that is quick, you should have seen what his previous E46 330d sport went like after DMS, green filter and miltek system. I still went around him up hill though at beyond 120 in the beast of an 854 T5 I had :D!!!

I just managed to edge past a BMW 123D after a roundabout in second gear foot to the floor to do it though and it was close.

Unfortunatly the T5 isnt the most torquey petrol engine ever produced although size for size they are very impressive! Another very powerfull engine which is a peach is the Audi 2.7 V6 Twin Turbo as fitted to RS4s and S4s. There are loads out there with out there with 500-800 NM (Mine had 500-510 NM available from 1800 RPM) of Torque. There are pleantly of other super cars with turbo chargers and superchargers kicking out 700 NM plus there just not as affordable as T5s

Look, Vettel had the same issue with Button yesterday so don't despair ;)

It is all relative - so just keep on keeping on!

Not much seems to phase the R that I would not expect to - apart from a Vauxhall Zafira VXR with a lot of extra tyres, less suspension and more exhaust than standard, and (I hope) a remap! That one kept up with me - and dare I say, pulled ahead :o
