Hi, I am experiencing a clicking noise on my 2001 S60 t5.

I get a rapid sucession of 5/6 clicks under swift acceleration or heavy engine braking.

I have read somewhere here that this could be due to the driveshafts but have tried using the search function and cannot find the thread on it. :slap:

Anyone got any ideas how to test the driveshafts to try to replicate the clicking? or any ideas what else it could be?

it may be a worn c v joint making the noise these are on the ends of the driveshafts .
you can usually tell if a c v joint is worn when you have the steering on full lock moving at slow speeds you can hear them making a clicking noise . one of mine is worn and very noticable going round tight left hand turns.

sounds like your "Axle splines" are worn, its ware the drive shaft enters into hub, a spline setup joins them together, its quite a commom problem.

your local volvo dealer will know about it and how to sort it

dave,

Any ideas how much it will be to fix? Will i need new driveshafts and hubs?

If it is a common fault are volvo aware of it and do they contribute towards the repair?

could i just apply loctite to the end of the driveshaft? and not replace any parts.

it all depends on how worn they are, 2 choices, can have it glued with loctite or you may need a new hub, £100+ for new hub approx, but a volvo dealer will be able to determine wot best to do, or goto one of the volvo specialist out there.

volvo might help with cost, depends if car has a full volvo service history?, depends on the exact problem, but i doubt it.

Just thought i would let you all know that it is now sorted,

I just tightened up the two 14mm bolts that hold the driveshaft into the hub. :)

May look at loctiting them if the clicking comes back in the future
