Anyone done this? How difficult is it?
Can it be done in situ or is it a case of removing engine and / or gearbox?

this would be a driveway job for me - no hydraulic lift just ramps jacks and a hoist. Although fairly mechanically apt my back aint as good as it used to be...

Remove gearbox - this does involve suspending the engine & dropping the subframe.

I have a spare differential if you need one?
