when i drive the car the noise isnt there but when sitting without it in gear the noise is there and when press the clutch the noise goes away and comes back when take foot off. Can any1 help any ideas

its a case of gear box out and replace it and depending how long your clutch has been in you minds well put a new one in

i think the realease bearing is around £40-£50 from rufe at volvo

it all depends if you can do the job your self if you can it wont cost you more than £300 for a new clutch kit and new fluid if the box looses any

Rear main seals £10 from gsf (german,sweedish,french)

Good call pedro, easily overlooked and probably one of the most important components to change through age.

Sorry to throw potentail spanner in here guys, but usually the bearing makes no noise while the car is sitting there as the bearing has no load on it. When the clutch is pressed this causes the bearing to sit on the spring plate and start spinning, hence if the bearing is shot you hear it under load. You might not here the noise whilst travelling as the engine noise and wind noise will be greater. I dont think I would worry about it just yet.

has it on some rollers and doesnt make noise when in gear just when sitting out of gear
