Hi All

'Alarm System Service Required' coming up on the dash and I know this is a common problem. I am selling the car and need to fix it.

Went to my local Arnie Volvo and got a big speel about diagnostic check, siren and then software to wed it to the car - way over 300 quid!

Surely they are at it?

I'm confused - some say an easy DIY fix, but Volvo are saying you can't without the computer software - Help guys!

if its the siren fault then it is easy,
you can buy the siren kit from (rufe) on here i believe.
its cheaper to buy the kit instead of just a siren,or something like that.
speak to rufe,he will help you.
it dont need to be programmed etc ...its just plug and play apparently.
iv done one on a v70 p2 and it didnt need programming.same meat, diffrent gravy lol.
all you do is remove the front bumper, thats a 10 min job,
unplug old unit and fit new one.

When you have fitted the new siren does the dash message need to be reset or does it go out automatically ?

the only thing i will say is that the pictures or diagrams in the kit show the siren as being on the left front corner (nsf).....the siren is actualy on the right hand side....(osf)
its bolted behind the front wing, right behind the right hand indicator/headlight.
bumper off in 10 mins and its exposed....
the kit comes with rivets etc to refit the front wing liner as you have to drill out the rivets to remove the bumper...
hope that helps.

What is likely to be the actual fault with the siren? And can a 2nd hand one be used to replace it? I'm getting sick of the message every time I start the car, but money is a bit tight at the moment. and my tyres will need doing soon.

I may be thinking of something comletely different, however Im fairly sure there is a non replaceable battery in there which dies after time. Therefore using a second hand unit could spring you the same problem much sooner than a new unit.

the alarm unit gets water in it and the batterys corrode, thats what stops it working,if you fit a 2nd hand one the chances are it wont be long before it needs changing aswell.
