hi all,i gave volvo tuning a call today about tuning and what i can do,they told me they do a 310hp chip upgrade for £590,has anyone did this upgrade and is it worth it and what else would i need to do ie brakes, strut brace,or is the 280 upgrade a better more sensible buy. any help appreciated guys.

Hi

Do it, do it now.

You could go with VT recommended Ferrodo pads/Brembo discs - but unless you drive like a nutter (lots of fast stops), not that I do (hehe) I think there may be othre more suitable options that give better bite rather than resistant to fade.

Strut brace is worth it not only because of price, but it stiffens up the chassis a bit.

How much difference in price is the 280 upgrade ?

it doesnt say on the web site,it just says its a budget upgrade and is ok to run on 95 ron petrol not that i do anyway,im just scared i do the engine in and am never out the petrol station, also its quite far for me as im in scotland and there is a few companys up here that will re map my ecu but thet dont specialise in volvos so im a bit reluctant.i used to have a cosworth and i never once got out of the car without a smile on my face and it had 270 bhp,it never failed to amaze me although it had no comfort factor at all.i want a big smile again but in the t5

no point in going 1/2 measures eh,,,?
Go for the full strength upgrade....you know you want to!!
TBH they will both run on 95 but if u want the best out of her 98 is the way ....

Do it.. :sinner:

Mines been done and to be honest on a tank full you dont really notice the few pence a litre anyway. It might show up a few other problems but they checkit out first anyway mine needed new plugs and a coil pack but they would have needed doing soon anyway. Its well worth the money and if you go for the 280 you will only want the other done later.Standard brakes are fine although when the pads are gone i will upgrade and i havent got a strut brace and it seems to handle pretty well.

No you don`t have to if you don`t want to

However i would advise that you do just in case some ££££ wipes you out it latter comes out that your car was modded to say 310 bhp when its 250 bhp as standard your insurance company might not be too happy and could void your insurance and any claim leaving you to pick up the bill and you would have to do all the hard work to get your money out of the other chaps insurance company

Or say you get pulled over by the plods who do a vehicle inspection and your insurance does not cover the increased risk of more bhp then mr plod will be on you like a ton of bricks

So in short Yes upgrade and Yes tell your insurance company

upto you but its undetectable. the way i see it is that out of all the cars they look at for tuning Volvo`s arent top of the list. a mate of mine had a diesel tuning box and was wiped out by some pikey`s in an old ford van they did a u turn in a t junction he was turning into they guy who was driving had just come out of hospital for spinal injuries that exact day and shouldnt have been driving and was only 18yrs old even though two other adults were in the van none had seatbelts on and one guy was sliding around in the backo of the van no even seated he hit them in a new shape mondeo and launched them 100ft into a field. anyways the moral is you never know when some daft ££££ will sue you or you will get smashed into as it happens it turned out alright..

one thing.. though he didnt tell his ins company as he got the car towed to his house first by the AA removed the tuning box and plugged the wires back in to the ecu and got a new car but with a Custom remap of the main ecu and not a plug in box your playing with fire.

again.. up to you

I know of a fatal accident where the T5 involved was analysed by Volvo for insurance purposes and they could not detect the upgrade.

i visited a place near me that does this to all cars not just volvos and they said that there is no way that i would get 320bhp,vt might tell me i am but im not and as for the print out on the rollers he said he could give me a print out stating 320bhp,they do it for £350 and if i dont like it say after a couple of hours or it not what im looking for just bring it back and they can tailor the torque and bhp a bit till i do free of charge and he will give me a 7 day money back gaurantee if im not impresed and also a 12 month gaurantee just like vt.....im tempted, anyway ive to go back in on monday to speak to him again at length about it so we will see.

Wattee, VT quote 310 bhp mate not 320bhp.

Beware of cheap imitations :)

Watteee,

Make no mistake VT are the Gods of volvo tuning.

Every time I turn the key I smile and enjoy it.

FYI it mine does 164mph flat out on the sat nav and yet drives around like miss daisy in town.

Never had anything else so versatile and with such a kick at 130+. :) :) :)

Do it and don't bother with alternatives; they won't be better.

As some like mine have 7 seats they must be the fastest people carriers around unless someone knows different. They certainly go 60mph quicker than my Voyager.

Cheers,

Jim

Thats exactly what you will get mate, im not slating other tuning companies, they all have viable quality products, and all do what they say they do.

However from experience, you cannot beat the Rica software, interms of economy, performance and reliability. Some one prove me wrong.....

Our satisfaction guarantee is 14 days, and our ECU software warranty is for as long as you own the car, not 12 months.
