Now the warm weather is here, my car has started to tick over at a 1000rpm... When the engine is cold or done a few miles its fine but if the engine gets fully upto temperature it tends to tick over at a 1000rpm... Today been especially bad as i hav been to the coast and sat in abit of traffic, its been searchin movin the revs up down but only a tiny bit... took the idle control valve off and the flappy bit inside seems rather loose, when you shake it or rotate it the flappy bit moves from closed to open, visa versa, its free with very little resistance, is this right???

Mine did this for ages was fine when cold but then would idle at 1100-1200 rpm when warm. Turned out to be a vacum leak on the elbow on the inlet manifold had broken. Very common problem you can but the part from main dealers to repair it. Also check all the other vac hoses for splits etc.

The rattling IAC, yes, thats how it should be!

Does sound like an air leak, as said, check all the pipes, and, the throttle body gasket, which is only a couple of quid.
