View Full Version : Rubbing noise?

Well I've bought another Volvo after a break, and I'm already after a bit of advice.
I've now got a v70 d5 manual, I got it cheap because of a rubbing sort of noise.
The front discs were badly worn and pads low, so thought this would probably be the cause.
Fitted discs and pads today, which has helped but not cured
Wheel bearings have no obvious play in them
Are the gearboxes normally solid in these?
Any ideas on what I should be looking for?
Many thanks for any replies, farmermo

Is the sound definatly coming from the front?
What about the tyres, are they at the right pressures and in good condition?

Checked pressures today as that had crossed my mind
Nearly new michelins all round

Some tyres can be noisier than others, but michelins are usally a good tyre.
Does the sound change as you speed up and slow down?

Speed definitely has an effect
Also applying the brakes seems to stop the noise

Sticky callipers? Either the slider or else the pistons? Usually detectable by a very gentle press on the pedal whilst noise is occuring - if it goes, then more than likely one or other of these two issues.
