M56 is basically the box type used on all (except 'R') manual 850's and 70 series (although the classics mainly use a concentric slave). Quaife is a manufacturer of limited slip diff who do a LSD to fit the M56 using a helical gear set up rather than the viscous type on the 'R'.

M56 is standard T5/ T5R box. M59 is the better standard box as it has a limited slip viscous coupling.

However if you add a Quaife (or Gripper) limited slip diff to an M56 it'll beat the M59 hands down IMO. The LSD (not the mind altering substance lol) is one of the best mods you can do to these cars. Traction is miles better and you get the power down on the tarmac rather than just spinning the wheels.

Wobbly Dave and Chris S70T5 have LSDs fitted; it's a mod I really want to sort out sometime too.

Edit:

Doh! spent so long on my reply you've already got the answers lol
