View Full Version : Steering rack - a saga begins!

So my steering rack has been leaking for ages and it's noisy, so after it failed it's mot I decided to change it. A guy on eBay was breaking an 850 awd near me and I mailed him asking if he had the rack and if it was the same as the fwd. He said yes and I went and collected the rack complete with pump.

Yesterday it becAme Obvious that the racks are not the same and that the awd one doesn't seem to have the engine mount on it!
What's the plan now? Is it possible to transfer the parts to the old rack ie refurbish it rather than change it??

Or should I just get the correct rack and wait for it to arrive?

P.s what a **** of a job!

not sure if the awd is useable. however, if you need another rack I have a good spare 1 from a '95 850 t5 that you can have for £25 delivered. Its off the car & ready to send.

£25 is delivered...you could have it for Tuesday or Wednesday.





or Thursday if sent by camel.

I'm gonna have a couple of hours this morning seeing if it's possible if not I'll go with your rack if that's ok. How do u want the cash?

The AWD one also uses 16mm track rods as opposed to the 14mm used on the FWD 850 models
