ok, finally got there today.

http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/johnnytempest/29082011435.jpg

finally revealed the extent of the damge to the subframe

http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/johnnytempest/29082011437.jpg

couple of questions:
when I finally managed to disconnect the steering, this fell out:

any ideas where it came from and what is it???

http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/johnnytempest/29082011433.jpg

I put it next to the rule,so you get an idea of the size.
it looks like its been snapped off at the end, not sure this will show that very well.

http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/johnnytempest/29082011434.jpg

anyway went back to check the chassis and found some strucual damgage:(

well not much happening with the car looking like this:
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/johnnytempest/29082011436.jpg

so I decided ( with a kick from Pedro! lol ) to start putting some of the bits back together.

So with a very kind donation of 2 wishbones from T5 Stealth (thanks mate), I put the polybushes on the those today.
http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa454/johnnytempest/10092011456.jpg

the door doesnt fit, nor does the wing!!!:(
the door hinges are bent out of position, so should be an easy fix with a big hammer,
but the wing needs pulling down at the front end, suggesting that front chassis leg has been bent downwards and possibly inwards too..

need to find somewhere with a jig, me thinks.

then I added camber plates:

now to bring the wheel back towards the arch, some 30mm spacers!!

I havent asked for a price yet as I'm still waiting for the top mounts and AP's due anytime, so saving any funds I have for those.

we think the arch can be beaten out and filled a bit, considering it will get covered in vinyl.so yea, pleased with that:)

You can check both of those things off then lol. The AP kit was designed to fit under Titans when it was originally produced so you will be fine with fitment. They also fit behind the 17" Volans found on the 850R AFAIK..

Having been in a few cars with ap's (including jc viggens t-5r around the nurburgring on several occasions) you wont be disappointed with the stopping power!.

1/2 true as the police did complain about the brakes initially. The upgrade volvo produced for the police was the 302 mm brakes that you have fitted to yours, along with a police compound pad - that is why the 302mm brakes exist on some later police 850's. Volvo had to slightly change the design of the columba 16" wheel to have more clearance over the calipers (re-designed wheel was called a "perfo") because the 302 mm's wouldnt fit behind the columba wheel. That is why the police 850's have the 16" 5 spoke perfo's as found on the later S/V70's.

The AP's are a pure performance BBK developed by AP and nothing to do with Volvo AFAIK - they only fit behind 17" wheels and wouldnt fit behind the police 16" perfo.

IMO you have gone for one of the best BBK's for the 850 and I will be getting a set for mine in the not too distant future!

JC's car was also stripped out with coilovers so you must have a similar set up and his was just perfect in the braking department. A few others have stop tech and they are supposed to be just as good but my choice would be the ap's as well!

a stupid question(probrably),

Just finished reading this thread from the start. I was referred here from T5D5 where I was asking for info on developing a T5 for racing!

Thought I was being clever doing something nobody else had done! Oh well, found this thread really interesting and loads of useful info on what im currently doing. The car is in the strip down and cage fabrication stage at the moment. I can see it taking a good year to 18 months to finish!

I am looking to enter the Clasisc Sports Car Club future classics series, but the regs appear to be roughly the same as Project 8, so development will probably be pretty close to your car.

I will start a thread shortly.

Really chuffed you got on the brands hatch homepage, proves the effort spent originally on the cars appearance was well worth it.

Shame about the sub-frame, im sure a bit of jiggering will see it fit right.

not sure if the camera shows this very clearly, but the O/S front looks ok, but the N/S front looks like its about 75mm to far in???
That is the side that took the main impact.

ok........................

phone call just came in...........

they have pulled it, but......
its not 100%. to get it 100% would require a new chassis leg or a new chassis.

we are talking 3mm's difference!
so we are good to go, it wont pass an insurance inspection(would need to be 2mm), but I dont care about that! lol
