I cant believe its been so long since i posted here... I've even moved house since!

Anyway, got an issue with my T4... there seems to be a "light" sounding metallic rattle (a bit like an exhaust clamp but pretty sure its not) around 1100rpm and again around 3000 and performance seems down, like the turbos no longer working, anyone know whats happened?

cheers

Jim

Where's the noise coming from? Could be a collapsed cat.

Does it have variable valve timing as I know that the VVT pulleys start to rattle when they are on the way out.

hmmm an mot tester mate has just tested the emissions, it's 12 when sposed to be 2... does that sound like a buggered cat?

To be honest a cat doesn't reduce it by that much. The CO limit I think is about 0.3 percent, without the cat it it will be higher but probably no higher then say 0.6, (maybe up to 1.0 percent). I'm not sure what the '12' is. Best get under the motor and give the cat a tap !

i'll ask him what the 12 refers to tomorrow. i remember he did say that it was near the max limit that the machine will read, way way above an mot fail!

If it's 12 percent then you have got some serious problems somewhere. That wouldn't even pass if the car was made in the eighties ! (the limit then was 3.5 percent IIRC !)
