hi all,

after seeing a few videos and build threads on various forums on the 740/760's
im seriously considering one. i have no idea on the 740/60's. could someone give me the basics on them please?

different specs, whats got a LSD, difference between a 40 and 60, is a T5 possible?
i would like one for drifting, 50/50 sensible and drifter. but dont really want a turd box like my old 340.

i have thought about getting an 200sx s14a but wanted to stick with a volvo

sorry for the random questions lol

any help much appreciated
cheers stu

I'm pretty sure the T5 engine bolts up to one of the RWD volvo boxes, So shouldn't be too hard.
Think the 40 is 4 cylinder and 60 a straight 6.
S body Nissan's are good cars, But look on ebay and nearly all the ads will say "Drift car" Because some turd covered it in crap stickers and wound the boost up... Puts me off. :)
Try www.turbobricks.com as there's a few T5 converted older cars over there.

thanks cherry. id settle for a nissan if there wasnt many options on the 740's/60's but hopefully 'T5 ing' one shouldnt be too much hassle.
would like enough power to have a bit of fun steering from the rear lol

M90 came in the 960....

There's a guy from the VOC that's dropped a T5 motor into his 740 he's also on Turbobricks, look for a thread on the 750R.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE REDBLOCK mate ,you can get more power out of a stronger engine and the are loads of tuning parts for them and i would also go for the 940 /960 turbo aswell.but 940 myself.940 is turboed not 960

the 940 uses the standard 2.3 redblock witch is the strongest engine volvo has ever built.they can hold major bhp with no cracking because its a cast steel block and alot cheaper to do than a t5 engine too.in sweden peeps are pulling 500 bhp on standard internals and over a 1000 bhp with forged rods and pistons and it is only a 4 banger too.

940s are great. I'm with you on preferring the look of the 740 but they're all brick really

If you keep with the standard redblock 2.3 turbo rather than a T5 swap it'll keep your insurance lower too :)

how about a 940 2.3 redblock turbo lump into a 740? straight swap?

if you can get a 760 turbo manual saloon mate you will have 182 bhp standard and t3 garrett turbo .but the better engine managment is in the 940 1995 onwards .the best 940 to get is a 940 sport on a n reg or a late 1997 940 lpt manual and that is a good starting point mate

Think the later engines had oil squirters under the pistons too :)

yes mate the b230ft/fk are squirter blocks and the early b230et use forge internals as standard and can be fitted with squirters too

940s don't fetch much money mate, for 2.5k you should be able to get one and fit a big turbo, exhaust, injectors, etc.

right........hopefully last question for now lol

im thinking buy a 940 (one with the redblock turbo lump and LSD rear axle)
and buy a manual 740 to put the 940 running gear on.

so will the redblock lump drop straight into the 740, and will the rear axle bolt straight on the 740

thanks very much for your help lads

Its obviously the 136bhp that draws them in.

We'll just how strong the red block is when you next run mate.

Can't believe you've decided to break the 855, shame really.

Back on topic definately should be an early phase 1 760 or 740 saloon they look the best imho, although I like the estate's just as much for different reasons. Would be good to see this project when you get out and about with it.
