Probably the ****est video ever but I'm bored - I asked Marco (MTE) to increase my rev-limiter to 7500rpm and I got my softloader file this morning.

I get through the gears 60-100 ~5.9secs (just me, 3/4 tank and a few kg in the boot.

Also 20-100 ~9.7secs.

Add 0.5 sec for inaccurate speedo and 60-100 ~6.4 secs through the gears is fine by me (with a ****ty clutch).

It was flat and around 8C on a private road of course.

Changing up at near 7500 rpm from 1st to 2nd feels "right" and smoother than "short shifting" at 7000 rpm. I probably wouldn't use the rev limiter 2nd to 3rd but again it feels right to change at 7000 rpm and now I won't crash the limiter. For funs sake I managed 120mph in 3rd! Clearly my torque in 3rd is shot at that speed and I shift at 6000-6500 usually. Silly really but higher rev limit definitely makes low gear driveability better and hopefully will be even more tractable with the diff/lightened fly/savage clutch. I can't upchange with 100% commitment from 2nd to 3rd at the moment as it slips.

Jardon your car is mental! I just hope it can take the revs.... :)

When was Marco Over? I want a Marco MTE/map :(

So so I - at the end of the day greater exposure to high rpm will increase risk of failure/premature wear. I emailed Marco and Don at Kalmar Union a couple of weeks ago to ask for an amendment to the rev-limiter. The softloader file which arrived in my inbox this morning was flashed from a laptop at home into my ECU. So it didn't need him to be here in person - though it looks like Marco will be here in May:

See post 12 in that thread - Don can supply a stock stage map at anytime and doesn't need Marco to install it (my MTE stage 1 and original 19t map were done on my drive with an emailed softloader file). If you want a custom map for your car then May is the time to get involved. My advice? Fit a water/meth kit and get the car mapped for it - your ECU will be quite happy and thats how I make the power in my car. I don't know the internal limits of your engine so you would need to do some research.

In my application the MTE stage 1 was much better than the equivalent HLM Autologic and RICA stage 1's that I had - no hesitation or flat spots, linear throttle pedal and it actually wanted to rev to the redline rather than become gutless when pushed. I would talk to Don at Kalmar to get some details on what you could expect from MTE stage/custom software and it wouldn't hurt to chat with other MTE custom tune clients for their advice/experience. As you can tell I'm a bit of an evangelist for Marcos work but I do speak with experience of HLM, Rica and WothRline maps on my car.

I've got BSR map on mine... the turbo is really the limit.

That said I know the MTE map can deal with a hybrid turbo even without any mods to the map, which is what appeals.

All of this is of course assuming I have any money! May have to wait till next year ....

1.4 bar Dave. 1.2 bar from 3000 rpm to 6000 rpm and 1.4 from around 3800 rpm to 5000 rpm. I have had it running 1.6 bar when the BCS was failing but performance was no better. The extra oomph over the original 19t map I had is in the increased spark advance - no increase in boost.

now that is a wide rev range you need to come to york so we can see how it goes in the flesh and against other t5s and my so slow old 940 turbo lol

I'm not suggesting that revving my stock engine to 7500 rpm is a good idea for longevity and I choose to accept the inevitable but likely small increase in wear and failure risk. I'm not going to be using this new facility very often on the road as it's a little bit raucous. My only track experience is Castle Combe and I didn't really need second gear so it's not going to have it's neck wrung there. Sustained exposure to high load and high rpm would be a much higher risk but my car pootles for most of it's life with the occasional squirt to make me smile.

The load on the engine in first and second gear is not high and I see 1.2 bar max in second. It doesn't noticeably choke and certainly in first changing at 7500 rpm "feels" just right. Second to third then shifting at 7000 rpm is fine but below "feels" like a waste of useful power. In third and up the turbo is choked well before the limiter and best use of mid range torque happens if I shift at 6000 rpm.

At the end of the day if it lets go it lets go and I will have learnt something. I factored in the need to replace an engine one day due to failure when I fitted my 19t. It's still massively cheaper motoring than the payment plan on my wifes Galaxy!

but your car sounds good for drag racing so come to york and 7.5k is fine as long as you use good oil and filters ps what car is it and is it vvt

Cheers Smithy. York is a long way and to be honest I'm not into the 1/4 mile thing - thanks though. I use Redline 5-40 with Volvo filters and change them every 5k. See my sig for details but it's a 2002 T5 - they have exhaust VVT but not intake.

as long as it is vvt it should be good for 7.5k anyway that why they produce more power than the standard engine its like my redblock they can rev to 8.5k as long as you put stronger valve spring in and a cam that can rev that high but the engine its self no probs.and quarter mileing is just like racing at traffic lights but legal and more fun.and its very adictive too you should try it were are you based mate

Thanks Smithy - useful and reassuring info. I like the "traffic lights" analogy!
