Some of you may know I have just purchased a 850R with a st 6 speed gearbox, all I can say is WOW, it has transformed the car, 1st gear is about the same as the m56 but 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th are alot closer together and this gives for amazing pick up, if anyone is in the south Wales area and wants a go your more than welcome, I think every t5 should have one of these boxes!!!!!!!!!

The Box out of the Focus ST... same as the one in the S40 T5?

It's quite a wide box even for a six speed... are you getting 30mph per 1000rpm in top?

Glad your happy with it i do think the t5's all could have done with it aswell espically when running more power i wounder whats involved in doing the conversion and how much power the st box can handle

Gearbox itself is I'm told the same as the S60R so power wise.. loads, the clutch is inferior though and it runs a DMF - that said mine has been fine and I'm running 275lb-ft torque at the wheels.

converted my S70r end of last year
Was nice to be able to control it in the snow ie wheelspin
but now it dry it just feels slow (bar initial pull away )
kind of wished i left it auto
and bought a little pocket rocket for spirited driving

it has a significant pause in boost between changes anyone know if this is something an auto ECU does ?Rica 302 BTW

possibly, it might be the ECU limits the boost during a gear change to stop spiking and the consequent cutting out for a split second. A friends old 850 T5 auto spiked during gear changes with an mbc fitted and had a horrific cut out when it did! It may have just been his particular car though.

I also think the ecus are slightly different for autos - hopefully someone else will know for sure. Hope this helps a bit.

The gearbox is about the strongest thing on the S60R so if it is it should be good for decent power

Out of interest is the gearing in top longer ? What RPM at 60 does it pull ?, (I'm thinking fuel economy here as I'm struggling to keep my 850 !)

6th gear on the ST box is the same as 5th on the M56H, its the gears between which are different (think even 1st & 2nd were the same)

Mine Revs lower in 6th when crusing than the 850R does in 5th and thats based on real speeds.

On the S40 it's 30mph per thousand in top.

I think the final drive on the ST box (M66 I think) is slightly different to the M56H (if Vadis is right)

I'm sure spesh doesn’t give a s—t because he's :insane: anyway, but he is enjoying a 6-speed Volvo close ratio box designed for the S60R/V70R but with a 4.00:1 final drive fitted by Ford in the ST & RS, as opposed to the 3.77:1 final drive fitted by Volvo to the R’s, which gives the Ford M66 an overall gearing of 2.80:1 and the R M66 variants an overall gearing of 2.63:1.

However the T5 S40/V50 has a wider spaced pipe and slippers  gear set M66 fitted especially between 2nd & 3rd and the 3.77:1 final drive, which gives an economical overall gearing in 6th of 2.45:1.

HTH’s clear up the confusion regarding the M66 transmission :)

Obviously the tyre/wheel circumference will play a part in the overall gearing ratio if different combinations are used.

Posted in Ford Oval colours for Ped as I know he's a fan of Henry's products.. ;)

Hi, I did up my ex-R (Manual) and the power is good @ 300whp and my auto T5 is about 270 whp. Now I'm sourcing for a manual conversion for the auto. Problem is I'm too far away and I'll need those pedals, gear shifters, hydraulic pump, etc to perform the complete transformation. If any one is willing to wrap up those parts, I'll arrange the freight.

You can remove/raise the rev limiter to 7000 and boost limits as well. Just call Adam@turbo-tuner for assistance.

Thanks

Does the ST box a simple bolt on box??? Or does stuff need to be changed?
