Yellow-violet is 12V in key positions I and II, there's a wiring diagram here that should help you:

http://www.wiringdiagrams21.com/2008/09/12/1996-volvo-850-wiring-diagrams

If you are looking for a tidy install, rather than splicing ignition switch wires there is a yellow accessory connector under the driver's kick panel (below the steering wheel) that will give you the same on pin 2 (brown-orange wire). There is also something called the X-rail in the electrical control panel (the big white thing with the relays in behind/above the accessory connector), I'm guessing this will take a female spade connector but I haven't had a decent look for the rails before.

If you splice the ignition cables you'll need an in-line fuse, the accessory connector and X-rail are already fused (not that another in-line fuse would do any harm).

Hope this is of help.

Dave
