I have a locking wheel bolt that won't budge, it was done up with an air gun by a gorilla

I broke the security socket trying to undo it, so I called the AA and the guy tried one of those impact tools but it broke 3 blades and he said he couldn't move it, so I took it to my Volvo dealer and the workshop tried and said they would either have to weld a standard bolt to it or drill it out, but it would have to be done as a chargeable job costing over £100.

So I got a local garage to try and remove it and they went for welding a bolt to it, but coz of the recess the weld wouldn't take that well and kept shearing off when torque was applied.

This is now becoming a right b@stard to remove, does anyone have any other suggestions or know of any specialists who can remove it, then I'm all ears

Thanks

i'm afraid i had the same problem & had to cut my wheel off, even the local tyre shop with an air gun & specialist tool for removing locking wheel nuts wouldn't budge it

This is quite common problem and most people seem to overcome it Pedro is just a violent hooligan that wanted to chop an alloy up lol

As a rule of thumb, if Volvo want £100 to drill it out, then an independent will charge about £60! That is probably a lot cheaper than a new alloy.

As for McGard locking wheel bolts, check out various threads by searching. Don't use locking nuts - they are a total waste of time.

If your local dealer had any brains he would order in the locking wheel nut removal kit and get them off for you unless there just after your money!

Hello Buddy. The easiest way in to bang on a 12 point 17mm socket with a lump hammer. I have removed hundreds this way! and the most it will cost you is a new socket.

Not sure where you are but I would be happy to remove in for you

I had the big flat faced lockers with the wiggly line cut out on my s70, I used a 24mm impact socket and a 7lb club hammer! Then a good twist with a cracker bar, and bobs your uncle!
Good luck mate! :)

I agree with above.. Used this method many times when working in a garage £60 earned for 5 mins work.

One imperial socket hammered into the locking nut..
If it costs you a socket and you still fail atleast you've tried

And if your local to Medway in Kent, we'll have a go at it! :)

I agree with phil. Locking wheel bolts are a total waste of time and more hassle than they're worth. I've always used the method of hammering on a slightly smaller socket, with a good success rate.
