Hope someone can help me out here.

Between jobs at the mo,so starting to grips with my T5R.

In Jersey there is no MOT and no requirement for Catalytic Converters, does anyone out there sell a sport exhaust system with a straight through down pipe,or would I have to get one made?difficult because I don't think anyone locally has a mandrell bender and obviously don't have a 3" pattern to work to.What happens to the Lambda sensor? will I have to fool the ecu into thinking that all is well somehow? Sorry to sound a bit thick but not really familliar with modding turbos.

I really like the look of the European tuning powerstage 5 kit, mainly for the reason that this has obviously had some sort of development and is a one stop shop, bar the downpipe, but have auto transmission,is there anything I can do to beef up the box,and get it to handle that kind of power,or is someones sensitive monkey ears going to hear it go bang in a big way?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The auto box can take re-maps, mbc, exhaust mods no problem as long as you look after it (regular fluid changes). How many miles as your car done and what mods does it have?

You can get an extra oil cooler fitted if you want to be extra carefull or are planning more mods. As i will be when i get a bigger turbo.
Not sure were you get them from as i'v not got that far yet, but think that people do the same when they are using them as tow cars.

Regarding the lambda sensor, i thought that the 850s only had 1 sensor (before the cat) so removing the cat shouldn't cause any problems.

I can hear the whine of your tortured auto box from here :)

you could request the torque is limited on your map.... From what I hear... if you do regular flushes, and avoid power starts, it may well last OK even with a big power upgrade.

... or just enjoy it till it goes screeecch BOOM! and get a manual box instead?

My car is mapped and i have done a couple of 1/4mile runs in it and my auto is very, very smooth, no problems at all.
As i have said i will be getting an uprated cooler, but only because i'm going for 300bhp and will (hopefully) be doing more 1/4miles in it.

The car has done 84000 miles and the previous owner spent thousands on it keeping it in showroom condition.I will definitely fit an upgraded cooler, thanks for the advice.

Here is the spec on the kit,it is copied and pasted from their site so is in a funny language, but easy enough to work out

Do you know which turbo it has, must be at least a 19t or better to be getting those figures.

Going to email them tomorrow to get a better handle on turbo injectors etc.Would also like to see a bhp and torque curve chart to see where the power is and how progressive etc. It's got to be driveable.
Will post when I get the info.

That does look a decent setup, but i would warn you that even with the uprated oil cooler, the auto will be at its limits at those power levels. I'v only seen (on the net) 2 autos running similar power.
The other problem is that a lot of people think that the rods are only good for about 320bhp.
So if you are going for those sort of figures, make sure you really look into it.

Maybe they can do a map that will help protect the box (think i have read of a company that do good maps for autos).
I'd definatly look into getting some better rods.

emailed them today and were not really very forthcoming.all they would tell me is that the kit uses green injectors.did't advise on turbo.and could not provide rr printout.

Will do some more work on this later and post,

If you already have a Ferrita 3" downpipe and 2.5" system with racecat as detailed above if your after a de-cat I would just cut the racecat out and weld a straight through pipe in its place. You'll get at least £100 for the racecat.

That is a very kind offer which I might well take you up on.

Because of the logistics of living on a rock I will probably bring the car over to the UK for a specialist to do the work on it,Volvos are sold in like a supermarket over here, and hourly rates for servicing are around the £95 an hour, and wouldn't trust anyone to do the mapping locally,so 3 good reasons for coming over.On the minus side we have no VAT so will have to find someone who can do the work on an export basis IYSWIM.I managed to do this with my TVR and saved £1200 in the process.I will also have to be 100% certain that I have got all the right bits before we start so that I do not have to keep coming backwards and forwards.so plenty of planning to do!

The ECU in this kitis provided by MTE which I am sure I have read on here somewhere provide off the shelf maps which are petty loopy, however that being said it is a custom programmable ECU,and they normally wind the torque in for autos so will drop them a line and see what they say.

As far as rods are concerned,in for a penny and all that, will probably upgrade but keep the standard pistons which should cope.

MTE tends to be the more linear/tame but some people prefer there cars like that

i assume the kit uses an angled 19t in which you can get a 3" Ferrita with 3" out after the cat to improve breathing a bit more

That is reassuring, because the main aim is to preserve the auto box as much as possible,if the worst comes to the worst and the box does go bang,I will have to put a manual one in it,but would like to keep the auto if at all possible.

The aim is to get rid of the cat as it is not a requirement in Jersey so with a bit of luck that will help further.

The pistons will be fine and if you get a map where the torque comes in progressivly (and not to much low down), then that will help the rods.

I'd like to get just over 300bhp and 400nm and i will be keeping the standard rods. If they do go then it will just mean i have to fit uprated parts next time. lol
